The Philosophy of Gutloading

I would like to thank Anthony Herrel and Walter Tapondjou for their helpful advice on where to look for relevant papers.
1. Introduction
Recently, it was suggested to me that our current gutloading practices might be wrong-headed. In particular, I...
Of course, all animals require water to survive, and it isn't as simple as placing a bowl in the bottom and calling it a day. In fact, with most chameleons this will have little, if any benefit. Most chain pet stores display their chameleons with a water bowl, and this can be misleading to the...

Hi and congratulations on having a beautiful girl veiled chameleon. These little sweeties are near and dear to my heart, and I’ve learned from some of the very best keepers on the forum how to care for them and effectively manage their reproductive health. Now I’m passing that knowledge on to...
I have posted a few times recommending that chameleon owners set up an automated dripper for their chameleons so that they have access to plenty of water when you are not at home. I know pain of trying to dial in the gravity fed drippers, like the little dripper, and promise that this works...
My little guy was purchased from FL Chams. They said he was 4.5 months old. for the first month I had him, he wast either solid apple-green or twig-brown. One time he turned a solid pepto-pink and that was pretty cool. His patterning and color spectrum seemed to show up at about 6 months of age...

Polly seems to be doing well and happy, I have not seen her eat but that's not to say she isn't. She just finished her first shed for me and she did great. She is active, meaning she walks around and occupies every part of her enclosure and seems to love sleeping towards the bottom at night...

Have you ever wanted to have that hanging plant up high in your chameleon enclosure? With the traditional screen cages we have had to exercise creativity to just put in a horizontal branch, much less hang a nice leafy pothos where it can trail down the side of the cage! I'd like to propose...

think Im ready for an animal, all temps and lighting are good, foliage is good, perchs and climbing ledges are in, I may add more vines later.
[/IMG]
I have my foliage in but will add more later (maybe), Drainage holes are in the bottom and the drip system is in and set. Ive decided to try the drip system mounted on the outside of the enclosure and It seems to be working fine there so far.
Im starting my lighting and temp testing today, I am thankful that I don't throw anything away so I have tons and tons of supplies from old Frog or Snake enclosures, Im running a 40W household bulb which is clearly inadequate as you see the basking temp is low, Ill boost up to a stronger bulb.
This is my first Chameleon, Im not new to Reptiles so I do have a basic knowledge and I like to have my research and enclosure 100% set and RIGHT before I bring my animal home.
Heres the enclosure that I decided to start with, I got a great deal on it and its demensions are 36" L X 24" W X 63" H

This is a warning about the new Madagascar chameleon quota species. Many of you are going to see (especially in North America) many new Calumma and Furcifer species for sale. These species are extremely neat and exotic species. However they are not beginner species similar to Furcifer pardalis...
