Who else is keeping their chams free range?

We've been free ranging our Chams for almost 7 years. I've never been able to talk to someone else who does. Love to trade tips and get a better understanding of refining the approach.

I more or less free range my parsonii because of the size and I have to bowl feed .

Hi Dean. I use feeder cups and mist 4x a day if they're in the house all day. Otherwise if the weather is good I throw them outside in sunning cages with drippers going all the time.

I use 100W Powersuns for double duty indoors. What do you use?

Btw, I was telling a friend about Parsons. We were confused about the average lifespan. What is the real answer?

I am thinking of free ranging all my cham, as soon as the sunroom is ready. The whole room will be dedicated for my chams.

I cant use a mv bulb for the parsons there skin is to soft and will burn just a double florescent light fixture and a regular incandescent bulb for the basking spot but I do use them for the panthers. I keep my chameleons outside as much as possible the heat lovers are out there right now panthers and carpets. They say Parsons can live between 15 and 20 years under optimal conditions.

I belong to a parsons site but you have to have a parsons to be in it. Not my rules. I can write you up a care sheet if you want.

Hi Dean,
I was going to try 100 watt MV bulbs for my panthers. I have most of them outside now too, but I will bring them in soon before it gets too hot. How many inches from the cham do they need to be. Im using the Reptisun 5.0 bulbs now...who else uses MV bulbs for there panthers?

If I'm not mistaken, Justin Carl use MV bulb with success.

Howdy Brian, I'll guess that you would be using a ZooMed 100W MV. There are some great charts for determining distances. Compare the MV to the 5.0 tube on the http://www.uvguide.co.uk/ site.

If you were thinking of trying a knock-off MV from China, forget it. I've tested some of those and they have terrible UVB exposure patterns. Imagine blasting a high power "+" pattern onto a chameleon .

A late post, but I just joined. I've been free-ranging since I've had chams - 2003. A Chameleon Condo (hanging plant set-up with light and dripper) is the centerpiece, but each cham has been given the run of the living room. Saccardo was unfortunately a little TOO free-range, and met his demise falling into the fish tank; all tanks and terraria have since been scrupulously covered over, and Thaxter has not had that opportunity. We used to play "find the lizard" when we came home - one day he was on top of a picture frame above the mantle - but he's slowing down a bit, especially as the weather gets cooler heading into fall.

been freerange for a few years now. I've had to play my share of "find the chameleon" also........they can find some strange places.

I free range most of the time. My male veiled pretty much has the entire house. My young female I still put in a cage some......she's so tiny I'm afraid she'll get lost in the house. I have trees all over my house and they stay in the trees most of the time. Will post a pic shortly. Jann

but how do they get there 12hours uv if there wondering around the house?

I have UVB and basking lights over my indoor trees. We live in FL and the go outside and stay on the screened back porch, too.

I personally don't have a free range atm... but Chameleons Online E~Zine has a couple of great articles on free ranging...
