Zeeklers (Zeke) vet visit!

well zeke went to the vet today he hasent been eating much and his poop was really runny and smelled bad so it was def time for vet. well the vet told me he had little coccidia eggs and he had something that started with an S i cant remember for the life of me what its called but he put him on pyraniel?? and sulfadimcthoxime (sp) has any ones babies ever been on this before? i attached some pics of the trip to the vet

Zeke is very handsome, he has some nice colors! I have had to use Sulfadimethoxine before, it should do the trick. Hope he gets better quickly!

You did the right thing taking Zeke to the vets. Did the vet tell you that coccidia is highly contagious and about the clean ups you will need to do to make sure he doesn't reinfect? I'll see if I can find you an old thread about the clean up. Zeke is very handsome and I hope he has a quick recovery.

thank you so much jannb!!! ive been trying to find something about this he told me i need to clean out his cage really good. when do you think would be the best time to actually full clean his cage after he gets done with his meds or while hes on his meds? He started acting really weird and lucky enough i have a huge house and many bedrooms so i made one room a "sick room" so i stuck him in there whenever he started acting funny just in case! and thank you i love the little guy

Coccidia is a PAIN. I would clean out the cage as Jann recommended, but keep him in a different area until he comes back negative for Coccidia. Then you should put him back in his cage.

I would clean once a week until he checks clean and then one more time. Be sure to get him rechecked a couple months after he checks clean just to make sure he didn't reinfect.

As long as your vet is not trying to rip you off with fecal test prices
I would do once a week. There is no need to med him if he is clean.

I would wait at least 2 weeks after he finishes the coccidia meds. Anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months. Then re-test on a regular basis every 4 to 6 months. Do you have other chams? If so I would get fecals on them also.
