Your cham's temper

How well- or ill-tempered is your cham? I've heard some chams are nice and friendly... I can't say the same about my yemens ha

My girl Ripley is an incarnation of the infamous veiled temper. She is REALLY mean. My partner is actually scared of her. She could take a worm from you, then puff up and hiss, sort of saying 'Now piss off!'
Baby boy is nice for now, but I don't want to keep my hopes up

over the past month my Guber has attained these same attributes,,,Sadly!!!!

was he ever nice? Ripley used to be really friendly, she loved to come out and walk all over me. Now she becomes a colorful hissing pancake when I get close

our wee boy is the exact same, so nice when he's getting something he likes but when the food is all gone i have to get my hand out of there quick!

hello Edinburgh=)

How old is your dude? I hope Ripley may get nicer when she gets older. She is about 10 months now

I think it depends lol. I have been very fortunate in that both my chams can't get enough of me :D But Pascal (the veiled) was a lot more ill tempered than Kuzco (the panther). But Pascal was also spoiled in that I would hold him every night until lights out (he'd fall asleep on me) then I'd put him away. Kuzco only gets that a few times a week :)

I hope your little girl comes around!! :D

yeah, hello Edinburgh! Nice to speak to a neighbour:) The Wee Dude is about 12 or 13 months old, he used to be nice natured, would come out freely and sit on my shoulder hanging onto my ear. But when he went in his big boy cage and got bigger, things changed lol lets hope your wee one remembers how to be friendly again lol

Lately if I take her out she puffs up and shows really dark patterns (I won't lie, it's really pretty ha)

And she is not little anymore.. my vet said she's one of the biggest females she'd seen. She is 120g at 10 months, no eggs (she was spayed) and not overweight

Haha They are always pretty when they are offended :D

 I stand corrected... hopefully your big girl comes around lol ;)

I'll try to explain their little personalities;

Squee; Easy going, docile, I can touch him and stroke his chin w/o him getting upset or even backing away from me. Picky eater, used to hand feeding and not a bit afraid of me. Will climb up my arm and chill on my shoulder w/o baiting when in the mood.
He's generaly a sweet little guy:)

Noogie: very docile, very picky eater, loves nice long warm showers, very friendly and will practicly run onto my arm and park on my shoulder to ride around. Hates any kind of worm but loves roaches. Has the cutest, helpless face :D

Smeagol: unpredictable, never really "friendly" as in getting on my arm w/o prompting or baiting, but will not hesitate to climb on me when it suits him. Not the least bit afraid of me, used to hand feeding, sometimes I can pet him, he likes to be pet under the chin andwill go limp and fall asleep.
Other times, he will puff up and gape at me but never hiss or bite.
Have to pry him off of the free range because he doesnt want to go home, he will try his best to avoid it, but will finally give in. I can handle him w/o protest with both hands. Even if he's puffing up at me, he is just all show and will calm down when I have him on my hand.
Complex mood and temper swings, like what I would expect from a cat or dog, but never from a reptile, in fact, NONE of these guys ACT like reptiles!!!

Smidget: I am still working with him. He is not at all tame yet but I attempt hand feeding daily. When he hides from me, he doest come back out for a long time, that means I still have a lot of work to do.

Kush is not my biggest fan. He hisses and carries on if I try to get him out of his cage. When he's out, he will NOT calm down. He just runs up and down my arm. He's terrified of me! I have tried hand feeding. He doesn't want to be anywhere near my hand. I try to spend as much time as I can near his cage, just so he sees me and will hopefully realize that I am not a threat. I don't know if he will ever get to where he likes it when I come around....but I hope he does! I've only had him a little over a month, so I'm hoping that maybe just more time together will work things out!

our Leaf likes my son way more then me, but he is all talk too once we have him he settles right down and goes bright green! But doesn't like to be out long and after a while gets all excited and starts to run around

How do you actually tame them? My girl was really nice and friendly when I got her (that would be about 5 months ago). But after she had her surgery, she became really moody and aggressive. I take it 'who is the boss' technique won't work on chameleons like it does on iguanas. I'm having trouble getting her out of her enclosure, she just spazzes out.

Yeah, sounds like your girl went through a bad trama with the surgery.
I hope she comes around 4 U, but to be honest, I would leave her totally alone for a long while, even cover at night.
I would only disturb her at feeding and I would not even attempt hand or cup feeding, I would let the cricks (I assume?) loose in the cage and walk away.

When you start seeing her out in the open, and she doesnt run and hide when you approch, then you can start slowly offering food in your hand, but dont get too close. If she starts to back away, pull your hand out and try again some other time.
Like what I am going through w/ Smidget, some cham just take longer and need more patience.

If you want detailed info on how I tame my chams, please feel free 2 PM me (or anyone eles for that matter) but I can tell U, the secret ingredients are patience, and love :)
