Young cham eyes closed and dehydrated

Next update. Used the 50/50 water and Gatorade mix, and gave Avi an extended misting and he went to town drinking. I can honestly say that is the most I have ever seen him drink. He was lapping drops off a hibiscus flower, licking drops off the screen, opening his mouth for mist, even climbed onto my hand and drank the little puddle I let form on the webbing of my hand. So excited that he obviously is feeling better. Thanks for the Frost idea yesterday, Nick, I'm pretty sure Avi approves of the flavor. :D

Time for an update. We turned off Avi's UVB bulb and a while later, his eyes opened. My fiancée dusted 10 crickets and he ate 7 of them. Regular mistings and then we leave him alone to relax. So on the agenda for this weekend: find a regular 40 watt incandescent light bulb( damn you energy efficiency!), stock up on small feeders and improved foods for gut loading, and figure out a good dripper system to try and lick this dehydration once and for all. Also planning on elevating his light set up so his UVB can go back on. No MBD here, thanks.

EXCELLENT news!!! I'm so happy to hear that little Avi is feeling better, eating and drinking.

I had to take my baby dragon back to pet Co for medical treatment and I've been in contact with the vet and petco the whole time I feel very good about the care he's getting it's still an ongoing thing. My dragon had stomatitis and mouth rot. It's a very stubborn infection. I just had an frog emergency and the dragon was all in the same week. Hard decision but in the end everyone comes home healthy.

I wouldn't have had a problem with PETCO if they would have informed me about what veterinary services they were using. They wouldn't give me much if any information about it, so I found my own vet with chameleon experience and took care of it myself. Ultimately, I didn't care who paid for the vet care, I just wanted it to be done correctly and informed about what the possible cause of illness and strange behavior.

So... yesterday Avi did pretty great with drinking. Not a whole lot of eating. Then, he closed his eyes again and started climbing blindly again. I was optimistic, obviously he had eaten on his own and was drinking to rehydrate himself. But, I was still worried about his eyes being closed. Then I uncovered his cage this morning(little chilly last night) and he's beginning to break out a shedding on his head and around his eyes. I'm wondering if this wasn't the root cause all along? I know shedding can affect their appetite, but can a rough shed either happening or getting ready to happen cause them to stop drinking and dehydrate? Has anyone ever heard of something similar?

Well, it's been close to a week and Avi is doing well. He's no longer being force fed, he's been quite actively hunting on his own. Dripper set-up is in place and works well. Elevated lights off top of screen cage and changed from a blue bulb to 40 watt frosted bulb. No signs of dehydration, eyes are full and urates white. Back to being a thriving chameleon. Thanks again to everyone for their advice and help.

Excellent news! Glad Avi is doing better and is back to drinking and eating on his own again! Awesome job with attacking the problem and taking your time to nail things down and help him pull through everything! Keep up the amazing job!
