Yemen Chameleon : Vet Trip

Pascals Companion

New Member
I just wanted to know is it safe for me to put my juvenile
yemen chameleon in a critter keeper and drive to see my
closest herp vet? My closest herp vet who actually seems
more certified than the others ive looked at is in Jacksonville (lol) , Florida.

I live in savannah so it's anywhere from a 2-3 hour trip for me meaning
4-6 total before my little companion will see his home again,
he won't like die or anything will he? ):

i cant guarentee he wont die. it depends on if he is really really sick.
however, he shouldnt die. and that is how alot of people transport them.

I mean he's not really sick at all or at least to my knowledge of sight and what i've read he isn't at all on another post i made in the health clinic i posted how i've been treating him with all his lighting, food, cage info, he just has this small bump right above his nostril almost unnoticable with the bone ridge going over his left eye, but i figured i should go get him checked out now and save the trouble of not going simply because it would save money. Plus he's going to need a vet at some point for examinations and just incase it's an infection it may be best. What do you think I should do?

I think taking him to a good herp vet is the way to go. If you want to stress him even less, put him in a regular box with a stick and a soft cloth. it will be dark so he will sleep both ways. I don't think the trip is bad for him.

For the better interest of my pet I'll do it, everything will hopefully be ok because if something is wrong it's better to risk it and solve it now. If all else fails at least I'll know that through the knowledge I've gained my next chance will be better both on husbandry and preperation. :) I'm sure that with how attentive I've been already he should make it <3 Once again thanks everyone I'm organizing the appointment for tomorrow :)

I use to live in Jacksonville and there is not a good chameleon vet there. There's a couple that claim to see chams but I would not recommend them. The closest cham vet to Jacksonville is in Orlando.

Try looking at this thread. I believed there's one in Statesboro, GA.

Yeah the list says theres one in my county but it hasn't been updated since 2007, i called the numbers and they say they have no doctors, it's merely a pet care store with a grooming facility.

(This is the closest one I found and she seems ok and was on one of the area by area links) :)

If this clinic was around when you lived there, let me know :) but if not i think its worth a shot o-o

This link that I gave you is updated all the time. It's vets that out members here use. One of our long time senior members recommends the one in Stateasboro. https://www.chameleonforums.com/area-area-country-vet-list-32880/

Thank you I browsed that before though, I took a look over it again and there are some in georgia but since i live in savannah some of the florida vets and south carolina vets are closer herp wise. If I do plan to go to a herp vet in georgia the closest ones are near macon and perry. which is only 30-40 minutes from Atlanta where some more recommended vets are but that's a 5 hour drive from where i live versus the 2 hour drive to florida or south carolina. I appreciate your advice though and I will give it more thought and research i have until 4 pm to make a solid decision so once again i appreciate everyones care and enthusiasm here <3

Statesboro is only one hour from Savannah right up I 16. I also lived in Savannah for 15 years. ;) Post #34 is the Statesboro vet.
