Hey all

I have posted this in an introduction but was told to post here too

My chameleon is 24 weeks old and seemingly not growing at all

This is when I picked her up on 12th feb:

And these are today:

As you can see she has grown slightly but not like I thought a baby would grow in over four months

Also concerned her back legs seem to be bowing slightly, I'm presuming this is mbd?

Any advise very much appreciated

What is your supplementing schedual wat are u using how often and wat brands. You look like yoi very well are facing mbd. What kind of lights do u use? brands watts temps durations of being on?

It looks like not just her back legs have some case of MBD.. it looks like the front ones do also, but not as bad as the back ones.. i'm sorry about your cham! i hope she gets better and starts growing!

Ok she is fed every day and I dust her food with nutrobal every other day...she has a daylight spot bulb for heat and a brand new uv tube when we got her, both of which are on 12 hours a day...

I presumed this would be enough calcium as i have never had any mbd in any other reptile before but this is my first chameleon

What can I do now? I have bone aid that I used when I rescued a beardie, can she have that?

I still do not understand why she is not growing

Shes not growing becuase her bones are bowing and breaking.

She has a calcium defiencincy. no calcium= no growth.

calcium without d3 is needed for every feeding, calcium with d3 twice a month, and multivitamin twice a month.

I would get her outside for natural sun as much as possible.

I dont know about bone aid, but I would get her calcium now.

Chameleons are frightfully different from most reptiles. The post from camimom above had the schedual your friend shoud be on.. as of now I recommend a vet for calcium injections.
Be very very gental the legs are as strong as shattered glass

Welcome to the forum!

You have come to the right place to get help fixing the issues that have caused your baby's problems. There is wonderful info and very helpful people on here that will support you through this problem.

Follow Trillian's instructions and copy, paste and fill out the form she linked for you.

Also, find a vet. At the top of the health clinic forum there is a thread with vets referred by other forum members or call around and find a good exotic vet in your area.

There are other issues that can cause MBD-like symptoms and only a vet can tell you the best course of treatment for your baby. Plus, if it is MBD, the fastest and best way to treat is with injections that increase the amount of calcium in the blood and then an injection to draw that calcium into the bones.

We are having storms at the moment with 70mph winds, it is very chilly so she will not like it outside at the moment she has a 10.0 uv tube, shall I put a 12.0 in?

No to the higher UVb bulb. too high and you can hurt her eyes.

Every single one of us on this forum has made mistakes with their chameleons, we do the best we can with the knowledge we have, when we know better, we do better, this is how 99% of us found this board, by coming here with problems like this. You have found this forum, and this is the BEST place to get chameleon information and help, we have a few vets as members here too.

Once your back on track and health is up u wanna move that 10.0 about 8-12 inches away from top of cage.. or lower it to a 5.0 uvb and set it 1-3 inches from top of cage

The blue in the beard is stunning! Is it a male? Does it have a spur pertruding from the back of ghe back feet appearing to be a "heel"?

Tell me about it! I've lost 3 chameleons within a few weeks of getting them because I figured that all my other reptiles are thriving, chameleons aren't going to be that complicated... But all those were wild-caught and rescues, which just sucks.

Male or female can be determined at birth wth these little ones.

Don't beat yourself up there's tons of misinformation out there. It's very very easy to do. Trust me once your on track with a healthy happy cham it won't seem hard at all. Just second nature.. and youll love every second of it..
