Worried about my Grabby!

I'm concerned with the look of her eyes. I am also concerned that she is gravid.

Is she pooping? How often are you handling her?

You said..."She has bark substrate, a water dish (although she doesn't touch it), a fake plant/tree thing, a coiled vine, and moss"...both the moss and the substrate could cause impaction...so I don't recommend either.

You said..."She's got a moonglo uv bulb. She shy's away from light."...is that a compact?

Moonglo are the blue night time heat lamps I think.

There should be NO lamps on at night. She needs to sleep just like us humans. Remember she needs to have cool temps. At night she should have a temp drop of 15 or so degrees.

I was reading this thread and thinking how overwhelming it must be hearing all this information for a new chameleon owner! Although Lyanlynn responded well, and is on the right track, I bet due to cost in the changes in the husbandry items, and frustration at getting mis-information from pet shops and conflicting information, many don't continue in the hobby.
Lyanlynn, where do you live? There is nothing like seeing a chameleon set-up to help you reproduce one. Enjoy your Jackson, and the learning proces it takes all of us to get good at this craft.

I remember feeling pretty mad at companies like ZooMed or ExoTerra for making 'faulty' or not so great products, yet still selling them. Everyone wants to make money and will twist things around. Ya just need to find a place like CF to network with people so ya don't get burned. Asking questions and doing research is the best thing to do. Some of the things sold to you at a pet store are great for applications for other animals... but everything isn't as universal as the manufacturers think. I had a good/bad experience with heat emiters. I purchased heat emitters thinking they would be better for some reason...BIG mistake... BUT I am glad I didn't just throw them out. When it got too cold at night for my baby melleri I had those heaters laying around and put them to work heating his cage at night.:)

After the initial suggestions, she has a fiberglass screen cage that has a vine that she loves to stay on, a foil pan at the bottom to hold everything (screening as a bottom, need something different), the fake plant, a basking lamp with a regular 60 watt bulb, and the moonglo for night time use. She didn't shy away from the light last night after I put her in the new cage. She stood with her head up soaking it up. Before, she didn't like to be around bright light.

My sister's house stays pretty cold, so I figured she definitely needed the moon glow for a bit of heat. I don't want her to get too cold, even though I know she needs that drop in heat.

The next step would be to place a nice ficus or sheflera plant in the cage for her to climb on. If you search the forum there are instructions on how to wash the tree and repot it to remove the fertilizer that comes in the dirt. The fertilizer needs to be removed, if she eats it she'll die.

How cold does it get?

I'm not sure, but it's cold enough for me to be freezing. I turned up the heat last night and was okay after awhile. I think if I'm not at least comfortable, no matter the time of day, she's not going to be warm enough.

Where can I find a ficus or a schefflera plant? I looked them up online and they aren't at Lowes, at least online they aren't, and that's the only national store I can think of that we would have around here. Lumberton is pretty country. We mostly have places to eat. I tried the walmart site, and they had a gift ficus, but I can't afford a 40 buck small plant.

i use ficus in all my cages, if you dont get a ficus you certainly need something bigger than the small fake plant you have in there

last time I checked you were not a chameleon ;)

wow, now i know its not just boca your "smart" with. So on that note, I use it in all my CHAMS cages :p

These are pics just taken! She is definitely more alert. She still doesn't like being misted, but I've taken her out today and let her stand under the water. She drank some. She seems a whole lot more alert and isn't anywhere near as dark as she had been. She actually looks like she should. I put a few worms in there for her, but she has yet to see them. She didn't like when I hung the food holder I created in there, so she's not facing the worms. I'm surprised at how much better she looks.

You're on the right path. That will look great when you put a couple of plants in the enclosure. I put paper towels on the bottom of my screened enclosure. They work pretty well for the misting and my dripper goes into a catch plastic container.

Cool beans! I went from everything being wrong yesterday to doing pretty good. She decided to venture from the vine and has crawled down to the bottom of the cage. I thought she was after a worm, but she's just walking around. She might be looking at Licky, my bearded dragon, who appears REALLY bored. He's use to watching the cats and stuff run everywhere and now it's just him, her, the fish, the hamster, and my bugs. I'm glad things are looking up for her. I'm excited to see her looking happier already.

Could she really be gravid? She wasn't housed with a male at the pet store and I don't have a male chameleon. She's spent a little time with my beared dragon, but he just wanted her crickets. They seem to be interested in looking at each from afar, but I think that's about it. How can you tell if she's pregnant? She looks skinny to me.
