Wondering what size UVB hood I should get and what size basking dome?

I am buying a new cage for my chameleon ( https://dragonstrand.com/product/tall-screen-chameleon-cage-system/ ) and wondering what size of hood and basking dome I should get. The ones I currently have will be too small ( 16 inches hood and a duel dome which I heard isn't all that great. So I would love to know what kind I should purchase along with the bulb!
I have that same enclosure and I use the 36 fixture and it fits perfectly diagonal. I also use an 8 inch dome for my basking light and it fits nicely in the corner.

Edit: I use the 34 in 6% arcadia bulb with the 36 fixture and a 100w incandescent bulb. I don't rest my basking dome on the cage though, I raise it up a little higher so the temps aren't too hot. But I do rest the linear bulb on the enclosure screen. :)

What type of chameleon will you be getting? Exciting stuff! This is the fun part, lol. Setting up their cage:

You'll want to purchase a T5 5.0 HO reptisun UVB bulb ( or 6% Arcadia) - 24" to run the entire length across the top of the cage.

I used this lamp fixture when I had a single chameleon cage to accommodate. https://ferrymorse.com/products/fer...MIrsHyl_6c7wIVMQPnCh22CQtNEAQYASABEgItnvD_BwE

Offers stands to help you elevate the uvb bulb off the top of the cage so you can get proper UVB readings (you'll want to purchase a solarmeter if budget allows so you can measure UVB readings accurately and know that your bulbs and distances are safe for your chameleon. We can discuss this further later or you can read about it on the chameleon academy :) https://chameleonacademy.com/basics-chameleon-lighting/)

The basking dome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005OCWP1Q/ref=wl_mb_wl_huc_mrai_2_dp w/ a clamp so you can raise it off the top of the cage and aim the light at a particular direction. It helps you position the uvb light right over their basking spot too so that he can heat up and bask under the uvb bulb at the same time.

Here's the lighting fixtures guide for your uvb ! It's best to get a solar meter so you can measure uvb accurately, but they are pricey. If you want to wait to get one I would recommend using the chart based on the bulb you get! 😊😊

I have a 4-5 month old veiled chameleon and want to change to a bigger one before he starts growing too much.

I notice it doesn't show the 36 Fixture or the 34 light, Should I just buy a 24" instead?
Yes since he's your only chameleon you really don't need one bigger than that. The bulb will be like 21 or so inches so that it can fit in this size fixture.

Oh on the chart! I was like wait you just showed me the bulb 🤣🤣
The inches on the chart still apply to the 36. just follow the strength of the bulb. Whether it's 12 or 6.. or if you go with reptisun.

That fixture is fine, but when I clicked the link, it showed the 14% bulb, which is a bit high.
For a chameleon, most folks use a 6%. Some use a 12%, but that requires more distance between bulb and basking site—usually either raising the light or lowering the plants & basking site.

I agree wholeheartedly with the recommendation for a Solarmeter 6.5x or alternatively a
DIY version.

For a basking lamp, generic clamp light fixtures from a home improvement store work well, as they can easily be aimed/angled to produce a gradient effect (rather than straight down).

For basking bulb, an old-fashioned household incandescent is fine. Alternatives are incandescent floods (not spots of any kind) or halogen floods. Wattage, distance, & angle will require some trial & error.

Thank you! and I got the Carolina Custom Cages Reptile 22" T5HO UVB Standard Light Fixture and Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 T5-Ho Uvb Fluorescent Lamp - 24 w - 22" instead because it was cheaper and would arrive earlier.

Those are fine. As it happens, all of those type fixtures come from the same mfr.
All made by Shenzen Sunlight Lighting Co. (OEM) and all are virtually identical
  • Arcadia Pro T5
  • Biodude T5HO
  • Carolina Custom Cages T5HO
  • Hydrofarm "Jumpstart"
  • Sunblaster T5HO Nanotech
  • Vivarium T5
  • Others
so shopping for price was the right way to go. ;)

Saving an extra 20 bucks was real nice too, now I can use that money for buying him more plants.
