Wire Cages

I know someone who builds cages and they offered to build me the size I need with 1in wire. The square kind that you see on rabbit cages and stuff but the smallest it comes. Should I stick with the screen cages or would the wire be okay? I am not 100% sure on this so before I decide I wanted to get opinions.

Wire cages, such as large bird cages, can work well.

What kind of wire (is it coated like you'd get with a quality bird cage, or sharp like hardware cloth)?

Free-ranging insects is harder in a wire cage

Less UVB is blocked by wire (because of the bigger gaps) than screen, making your tube light more effective

Wire cages are usually sturdier than screen, and you can attach branches, feeding cups, etc to wire more easily.

Both wire and screen cages do not retain humidity or heat well.
