Wire bird enclosure safe?

Large, quality bird cages with coated wire can make good cages. Like any other enclosure, there are pros and cons. This topic comes up quite often - use the search function to find previous threads.

Like screen, they do not retain heat or humidity well, so if your ambient conditions arent good, you're going to struggle. You can mitigate that just as you would with screen, by covering back and /or sides with plastic.

Much less UVB is blocked then would be the case with screen.

Easy to afix brances and feeding cups.

Bugs escape easily if free-ranged and not eaten quickly.

I kept my first chameleon in a huge ferret cage and I ended up hating it. There wasn't a good way to take care of water efficiently, and if my cham didn't cup feed the insects would escape - he ended up losing weight at first. It did have its pros, but I personally didn't like it.

Now I use it as an outdoor cage for my chams, so it works excellently for that. But that was just my experience with them, I don't think I'd use them again as indoor cages.
