I'm new to chameleons so I'm starting out with a Pygmy has anyone had luck with Pygmy without UVB because I want whats what's best for it but I don't want to spend $50+ on a UVB and lamp I fit is nessesary would 5.0 bulb burn because at a local petco plod mine that's the lowest number UVB
Also is the pamona super show in California a good place to buy a Pygmy?

Pygmies do not necessarily need UVB - it has not been proven that they use it since they live on the lowest levels of the forest where there isn't much sunlight. This is unique to pygmy species. I have raised and kept R. brevicaudatus without UVB entirely. But I prefer to offer low level UVB because it can't hurt and they may actually gain benefits from it that we just haven't recognized yet. A 5.0 would be okay but a 2.0 would be better imo. You should be able to find those bulbs at the Pomona show easily. The bulb is usually <$20 and you can use a light hood from Home Depot or somewhere similar that is a little less than pet store light hoods. So it shouldn't be really expensive.

Here is a great care sheet on pygmies: http://chameleonnews.com/05DecRouthouska.html
