will he hurt her?

Wanting to breed my chameleons but worried about the size difference between male and female, male is around 2yr old and a big brute, female is only half the size and nearly 1yr.. shown her to him a few times and he was gone wild clawing to get out, my worry is will his monster sharp claws damage the delicate lady?

Chams are rough maters, usually, unless she is a horny girl, he will have to rape her. The claws come in handy for that...
The females are used to getting hurt during mating. On occasion a claw will cut her, just watch for infection if it does. Usually though, if they bully them into submission, they just ram the females with their heads.

I don't subscribe to that at all. If she is not ready do not allow him to do that to her. They can get injuries bad enough to be life threatening. You should see very little to no aggression in a properly paired mating.

That couldn't be more untrue. A receptive female will be willing to have the male mount and mate. There will be little to no reaction when the male approach's.

When she has had enough of him she will let him know and turn dark and defensive. He will get the hint.

Thanks all, but apart from the claws, will the difference in size matter? Done a lot of research on breeding, but it doesn't mention size? Only age..

He is easily 13 inches plus as she is only 7 inches

First off, ignore the above posters.

Second off, females are typically smaller than the males by at least half the body size.

As long as your female is over a year old and healthy, its ok to breed.

When a female is ready to breed, she will not hiss or flare up at a male.

You can start by slowly introducing the female to the male.

if she gapes, flares, or sways, she is not ready to breed.

If she stays calm and lets the male get near her, then she is receptive.

Their is a possibility the male will scratch her, but its not a huge deal.

usually the females are bred with and left unscathed. maybe a slight scratch mark, which is usually nothing more than black mark on their sides.

then the female is removed after mating, and in 4-6 weeks lays her eggs.

And yes I know how it works because i've bred my females with my males several times.

Many thanks, good to know about size difference, shown them to each other on several occasions and she is completely calm around him, he on the other hand flares up and does a sexy dance then tries to reach out to here frantically once the flaring gone, perhaps I'm just being over precautious as female seems so polite and passive compared to my territorial oh so strong male ha ha

The males do the dance to entice her to mate.

He will reach out for her, that's normal.

it might seem a bit rough, but they know what they are doing.

as long as the female is calm, its ok. everything will be ok.

Thank you for your input, will hopefully spend the day tomorrow letting her roam around his territory closely monitoring them to intervene if need be, searching for Barry white CD now to set the mood for Yoshi and Moshi ha..
