I bought a Melleri chameleon about a month ago, it's horn was broke to the right when i got him. It fell off about two days later, i am wondering if it will grow back, prolly a silly question, just curious, he has healed up great and is doing great. Thanks for any info,

Chris

WC v. CH/CB

Hi, Chris.
You will notice that in the pictures of Mellers, that those that are WC, almost always have a broken horn. Most are broken during shipping to the states.
On the other hand, you will see a number of CH/CB in chameleon forums that have a full or developed horn. Better care and shipping prevented the horn from being damaged, and the recent supply of CH Mellers, was of baby Mellers before they had a horn, now of course they are getting big and you can see the development.
Once the horn is broken, they do not sadly grow back. Kind of like a Rhino.

I have no experience with chameleons with horns at all, but i do know that when a chameleon loses a toe nail that it will not grow back. So i would assume that it will not grow back.

They guy above me said it better lol.

i look for new info on this matter to be released in the next few years on how to stimulate better external bone growth, and we might start seeing some techniques to get toenails back ect. There still need to be a lot of natural chameleon studies done to be sure on this, but i hope we can find a way.=)

Thank you very much for the helpful replies, i am used to him looking this way and he's doing great so no big deal to me, nice to meet you,
Chris

Have to say most CB melleri end up losing their horns too! It steems that the tanzanian melleri can lose them easily. The pics I've seen of the melleri from malawi have stronger horns - and the show "in cold blood" showed two melleri fighting with their hrons.

I have a young Jackson's male who lost one of his preocular horns a few months ago. He has grown a ton since then and his horns are getting big...but that one is not growing back.

I would assume it is the same with melleri.
