Why the need for bins for egg laying?

hello! im just wondering why you need to put bins inside the female chameleons cage (when pregnant). cant you just fill the whole bottom of the enclosure with soil? then plant plants? kinda like a terrarium?

sure if your gonna make it 12+ inches deep, then how are you gonna dig them out. The easy way is bins, its a proven fact, but dirt is dirt to a female chameleon when its lay time. I dont think your gonna make it any easier buy pouring dirt in her cage and it has to be to a certian humidity.

ahh i see. does it have a chance to hatch on its own if i just leave it there? i live in the philippines and the climate is warm all around. my enclousre is outside.

To incubate the eggs where they were laid in captivity is not easy....you have to keep the soil the right humidity and temperature....too wet and the eggs will take on too much water and the embryo will suffocate....too little and the egg will dry out and the baby will die. Too hot or cold and the embryo won't make it. Its much more easily controlled in an incubator or in containers set up to be incubated in an area that is warm enough. The containers become a mini eco system.
