hi all,

my 5 month old veiled kumar has chosen his hibiscus plant as his new sleeping spot and he quietly curls up in the leaves every night to go to sleep however he has also decided it has far to many leaves on the branches and has ripped off 70% of the plants leaves! lol
why has he done this? does anyone know plants? will they grow back?!

The leaves are probably just falling off from lack of sun. They will grow back if you water it and give it pleanty of sun. You need to buy at least 2 plants and rotate them in your cage. Jann

oh really, i thought they would be ok as i have a 10% UVB light in there and water them everyday as well as giving them a foliage plant supplement once a week.
the other 2 are fine, its just the one he sleeps in, and it all happened in 1 night!
he has a ficus, a draceana and a hibiscus in there.

Potho and ficus do very well inside the cage but hibiscus require allot of natural sun light and need to be rotated. Jann

Is your hibiscus in flower? - I'm just wondering because the hibiscus was my Jackson's favoritest thing in the world - until it stopped flowering, then he never wanted anything to do with it again. Maybe just a quirky Jacksons.

My f. veiled destroys her hybiscus whereas the other ones don't touch theirs. I do have to remove it about every 2 weeks before she totally exfoliates it. Today I am going to see if I can get another one for her to snack on. LOL

I have seen my Veileds enjoying their Hibiscus leaves as if they were a salad bar. Veileds love to eat ther plants.

I have a Hibiscus in the cage as well.My little girl loves to hang on the stems and rest her head in leaves, using them as a pillow to sleep. Its a really funny thing to see. She hasnt munched any of the leaves yet and the plant is about to bloom some flowers. I hear they enjoy eatting the flowers themselfs, is that true?

Yes, my little girl takes big bites out of the flowers. Jann

hehe, just a funny little thing they do then! He grabs the stalks and rest his head on the leaves too, how cute!
Maybe I will have to get another one then and keep rotating them, it is definately his favourite plant.
Its not it flower at the mo, its going out of season here but when i got it it was flowering and he very quickly took bites out of them! lol
