Why does my chameleons mouth look odd?

I’ve noticed my chams mouth has some odd spots around it and a black spot right in the front. He’s acting normal, I’m just wondering if this is something I should be worried about.

It could be mouth rot. Can you get any pics of its mouth open?

I’m seeing signs that he probably has mouth rot. It’s essential to get him to a good vet asap for diagnosis and treatment. The infection can go down into the bone if untreated and cause much bigger problems.

i was able to get some more photos, don’t mind the cricket that’s the only way he will open his mouth!

Well the inside looks ok. Perhaps it is feeder guts that stained his lips.

Mouth rot, also known as stomatitis, is a common bacterial infection in chameleons that affects the oral cavity, tongue, palate, and esophagus. It's caused by opportunistic bacteria that infect reptiles with weakened immune systems, and viruses can also make the infection worse

What causes mouth rot?

It’s an oral infection and there can be a few different causes. When one of mine got it, I believed it may have been from a superworm biting him as he was eating it. Veterinary care healed it, but it recurred and then he began a decline that ended with a cancer diagnosis and euthanasia.

Update! Most of it wiped off, including the black at the front of his mouth! He is beginning to shed again so i will leave him alone but i’ll be sure to keep check on it!

A lot of times it’s stained and just has to come off with time. If you run too much you will start the molt process which you don’t want to do.

I have to agree with what @MissSkittles said…time to see a good chameleon vet.
