White stuff on eye - picture

Hi,

so I have a 3-4 month old Sambava Panther. He's been eating calcium/vitamin dusted crickets for the most part. I mist him in the morning an evening and then have a habba mist (upgrading soon) going all day. His poop looks fine, not orange or anything.

Anyway, about 10 days a go I started noticing this white stuff on the top of his eye. I thought he was shedding so i ignored it, but the rest of his body hasn't changed since he go it. Any suggestions or solutions?

Also, can someone please post pictures of symptoms of over/under supplementation? I can't seem to find any.

Thanks.

that's an unfinished shed skin.
Increase misting to increase humidity.. later, it should come off on its own

really? because he hasn't shed at all since I've had him (a little over two weeks).

Well, if it is shedding, then hopefully it won't cause irritation or bacteria...

It's still there! :(

2 things..

First, the white stuff has not gone away (been 3 weeks) and I have seen him rub his eye a couple of times. Should I be concerned enough to try and remove it myself? It would be difficult because the white stuff is only visible when he looks in a certain direction (and I don't want to harm my little guy).

Second, I have had him for a month now and have yet to see him shed at all. He is growing and his tail looks mildly lighter than his body, but does shedding normally take this long?

Thanks to all who can help.

The humidity is usually 55-64 depending on how recently the Mistking went off. Actually, I just installed the Mistking last night. I have it going every 3 hours for 2 minutes at a time (from 7:45am to 8:30pm). Also, I try to mist it a bit before I leave to work and when I return home. His poop looks fine.

I was using Habba spit for the month before, do you think thats the problem?

Habba Spit doesn't exactly mist :)
yeah.. it might contribute to the problem.
So, during the time when it dries, it goes the lowest 55%?
In that sense, i don't see the reason how he might have difficulty in shedding.
As far as rubbing goes, i can see how that piece of skin can create uncomfortable sensation to him and he probably tried to scrape it off.

Any current pics? you can use a hand pump mister, fill the mister with warm water, and gently mist him..

Wait scratch that, before with the Habba, it went as low as 43% humidity.

 I shouldn't factor in the Mistking considering today was the first day of its cycle...

I cannot get a good photo at the moment, however, after looking at it now, the shed seems to be (very slightly) lifting upwards. I hope this is due to the Mistking, but perhaps I should wait a little longer and see?

Clearly unshed skin.....

It is clearly unshed skin. Tiny pieces can linger for months. Dap a little Neosprin on it with a Q-tip. After a day or two dab a little more Neosporin on it again and use the Q-tip to gently slid it off. Don't force it. The moisture from the Neosporin will probably make it ready to slough off. I don't think you are having a critical problem. The older a cham gets the less often it will shed. The area on the eye turret is one that is hard to get to for a chameleon. They will often try to remove their own shed by rubbing their body or eyes on branches or tearing at it with their mouths. They can't get to that spot easily on their own. If there was a lot of unshed stuff on him I would worry. If it's just that little piece I would not freak out about it.

I'd be inclined to leave the skin there, if that's what it is. Eventually it will rub it off. Its not in a place that is likely to hurt circulation or cause lasting damage. if when he does his next shed that area stays like that, doesnt shed, you may need to help. Difficult place to help with though.

Again, like others have said also, I did not see this as something that you should panic about. Maintain the humidity you have now. eventually, the piece will fall off. :)

Yeah I agree with you and dodolah on this one. Will let you know if it stays the same.

Thanks to all for the advice!
