Which Setups Are Best?

Veileds are the best choice for a starter cham, but they do tend to be aggressive. Do NOT start with a female. You could go Panther-but as stated above it is really luck of the draw-I have a HUGE male Veiled that thinks he is a puppy, and my most handleable guy, and a Panther that would kill me in my sleep. To get the best bang for your buck-get a juvie male Veiled and the large kit from FL Chams-the one with the 24X24X48 cage-you will never need to upgrade. They do have some Veileds that are a good size to go right into the large cage. The small kit from either place will last you about 4 months.

Don't mean to hijack the topic, but now I'm wondering, is the Screameleons setup is large enough for a 5 month old Jackson's? The website seems to imply it is good enough for 0-9 month Panthers, which are larger lizards if I'm not mistaken.

Panthers can grow pretty slow-but A jackson's should be in an 18X18X36. The medium kit from FLChams would be perfect-and cheaper.

The male vields get about 12" long not including tail right? I will probably go with that and get the kit from FLchams. I will also buy a mister to go with the kit and a timer for the lights. Everything sound good there?

Male Veileds on average get to about 17" total length. Everything else sounds great! Go MistKing and you can't go wrong. Also the only other thing you will need will be a live plant. I highly suggest a Schefflera.

O.K. im here to tell you that FLchams has excellent chameleons I just purchased 11 veiled from them at the tampa reptile show and 12 cages. Every one of them were plump and healthy plus they are honest people. I dont know about screameleons but flchams is a yes.

Are you the nice couple that purchased all of the Veileds? Welcome to the foums-I met you Saturday.

So this is what I'm going to order:

1: Juvenile Veiled Chameleon from FLChams
2: COMPLETE CAGE SETUP: Large Kit from FLChams
3: Starter Misting System from MistKing

All this sound good to start off? I will be feeding crickets, mealworms, ect.

I will most likely get some live plants soon, and get some fake ones aswell.

This is everything the Large Setup Kit comes with
Cage 24 x 24 x 48
75 Watt Heat Bulb
5 1/2" Clamp Lamp
20" Fluorescent Fixture
Reptisun 5.0 18" Fluorescent Bulb
(2) Exo Terra Vine – Medium
(2) Exo Terra Large Ampallo Plastic
Leaves
Zoo Med Calcium w/ D3
Reptivite
Zoo Med Digital Thermometer
Reptile Spray Bottle

If it does not come with the vine-get one of the fake vines. Otherwise that will get you started very, very nicely!

You also should buy a plain calcium without d3. Also, superworms are better than mealworms as their shells aren't has hard.

For the live plants I will use some Schefflera. I was wondering if I could you wooden dowels placed diagonally in the cage for climbing. That would be in addition to the Schefflera and the fake vines.

Thank you so much for all your help everyone! This forum has been a plethora of advice! THANK YOU!

Actually, Juli, the kit from Screameleons is cheaper than the medium from FLChams - same size and all, but the Screameleons is $295, while FLChams is $300 shipped.

So we are talking a $5.00 difference for a cage that is 8x larger! ;)

Aren't the medium kit form FLChams and Screameleon's kit the same size?

(I did buy mine from FLChams, but only because I'm also getting a chameleon from them and I'll be upgrading to a MistKing soon also.)
