On the outside...otherwise it will get wet from the moist sand you have on the inside of the container.

Some (art) stores sell a plastic that looks like corragated cardboard....you don't have to worry about it getting wet...so it lasts "forever".

I don't use tape to put it together in case the chameleon gets some of it off and gets stuck to it. You can use tie wraps put through small holes you punch in the "cardboard"

You don't need to put a cover on the bin, but you should give her privacy if she starts digging around. It might be that a covered bin ends up being the easiest answer. However, lots of people say they just wrap the bottom of the cage with newspaper, leaving a little "peep hole".

kinyonga is talking about Coroplast. It's a tremendously useful product. You could actually make a custom bin to your exact specifications with it if you were the creative type. You should be able to find it at art stores (as mentioned) or places that sell shipping supplies.

I wasn't suggesting to cover the bin...I was suggesting to surround the sides of the bin with something to make it opaque so the chameleon couldn't see out the sides of the container when it digs it hole.

You shouldn't let the chameleon see you watching it when its digging the hole though, just like Eliza said.

I know you weren't suggesting that. However, martindean had asked:

do I put anything over it or doesnt that matter????

Which I thought was a question about covering the bin. Maybe it wasn't but I thought, why not address that question as well?

Peanuts laying bin is slightly transparent, she hasnt had no problem using it at all.

I place it at the back of her enclouser with pathos vines hanging all around it :)

I 'cover' mine. I have a plastic shield rigged up about 4 inches above Carmies laying bin so she can still easily get in but keeps excess water out from misting/dripping and keeps it from getting waterlogged.
