when will it end?

Hello. I have been off the forum for a while. It is good to be back, but unfortunately it is not without a question. I have posted about this before, but I am a bit concerned. My appx. 10 month old male Panther just refuses to eat. He eats about 4 supers a week! He refuses crix and even sometimes the supers. I have spoken with others on this forum before and I know that some of you have experienced this. This has been going on for about two months now. Is there anything I can do? He obviously is not pooping since he is not eating. I am a bit concerned.

Any help would be nice.

Hey,

First off welcome back to the forums, as for your cham problem I am sorry to hear about it.

Usually chams will be stubborn with what they eat, have to keep changing food regularily but to not be eating and pooping is not good.

Lets start off with the basics:

-Cage size?
-Screen or glass cage?
-Temps of the cage, basking and average spot?
-UVB lighting, what number are you using, should be 5.0 and is it tube or compact fluorescent?
-How long have you had that UVB light in, (6 months is roughly the changing date)
-Is he active or lethargic?
- How often do you mist him?
- If you are using live plants what kind are they?

Just some of these questions will help the more experienced people answer your question.

I have had this problem before, and I tried every food that I could get my hands on, wax worms, silks, horn worms, crix, super worms etc... he just wouldn't eat much

I took him in to the vet and turned out he had hook worms, and coccidia, once that was fixed he ate like a champ again.

I hope this is not the case for you, but if your cham has been to the vet before, get what ever poo you can from him (preferably fresh) and just run it to the vet and get a flotation test done, they should be able to tell if it is a parasite and give you some meds you can apply to him yourself.

Good luck, and keep us posted if you bring him in.

What part of the country are you in? Winter light hours can cause some to decrease or go off food. My female Oustalet just started eating again and pooping again after a month. Just make sure he does not start to lose a bunch of weight.

These are the possible reasons I can think of:

Bordom with prey options
Temperature insufficient for digestion.
Illness
Medications
Nutritional imbalance
Dehydration
Age of chameleon
Time of day fed (amount of light)
Soon to lay eggs (not in this case obviously)
Stress

Thanks all.

Personally, I have to go with Julirs. It definitely started with the change in seasons. I live in SC. However, some have told me that b/c of his age this may be happening. He has been passing massive sperm plugs as well. His weight looks fine. I do not want to take any risks, but I do not sense any symptoms of sickness; at least not yet. I do not want to go the vet route unless I need to. Maybe I should send in some poop anyway. Any other theories???
