so my 7 month old panther male has practicly stoped eating crix...i am in the middle of growing 1/4 inch silks to feeding size..he eats supers and horns and siolks and waxes and all others on demand...but not crix. So when should i slow down...and where can i get large silks or at least 1 inch silks...besides mulberry farms or coastalsilkworms?

should i slow his feeding down in a month or right now?

Also how should i weigh him...just put him in a plastic container with a lid while hes ontop of a gram scale...thats how i do my bearded dragon....while this work?

and what is the desired weight for a 7 montn old male?

thanks for reading.

I'm not sure on the weight, a good way to tell is a nice thick and meaty looking tail base. If the tail is plump, the cham is well fed' googley eyes=well hydrated. The method you mentioned is fine too, but a healthy chameleon is easy to tell just by looking at them.

As far as crickets go, all animals have different dietary requirements at different stages of life. The crickets are great for growing lizards for protein, but once they get to adult/juvenile size, they may change their taste to worms exclusively or a certain kind of roach, something they like, just to keep up the fuel, know what I mean?

If it's a male, it'll probably be picky since it doesn't have to produce eggs, he doesn't really need a demanding diet, he can just go around flaunting his sassy colors off and defending his territory and that's about all there is to it, so he'll probably just pick and choose what he likes, and what he likes might change every several months.

I've found this to be true with almost all the lizards I've kept. The males are picky, but the females always eat. I would assume it is because the females need to produce eggs so they need as much nutrient intake as they can get to store in their bodies.

okay thanks...he is hrealthy no doubt but large silks are hard to find...and i need another "common" feeder

mista turned 8 months old today and for the four months i have had him he will only eat extra large locusts and only two mabee three a day.sometimes every two days.
he will eat the occasional waxie but turns his nose up at everything else!

Start feeding him every other day. If a chameleon gets picky, then don't feed it at all for a few days, then offer the crickets again.

There is no rule concerning length and weight, but there are some stats, which at least give a slight hint, at where the average may lie.:
