When to slow down feeding…

Hello! To preface, we have a 8 month old Ambilobe Panther Chameleon. In his early years, we had been feeding a mix of dubia roaches and crickets for his youth, and have usually fed around 15-20 a day. When he turned 6 months old to currently, we are feeding him about 8 medium sized crickets and 2 medium dubia roaches a day for a total of 10-12 feeders a day.

My question is, at what point do we need to start slowing down his feeding further? When do we need to switch to every other day feedings or limit his amount of food per day? We don’t want our guy to get chunky and want him to remain healthy!

If you have any questions or need additional info let me know!

Generally panthers will let you know when to cut them back by decreased appetite. Mine all will eat forever and a day though, so I look to the sizes of their casques. Where your beauties casque is now looks ideal. You want it to have just the smallest concavity to it. If it starts bulging up and out, he’s getting overweight/overfed. All of mine are mature adults and I feed them all about 3-4* feeders every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a treat on one of the weekend days. *I actually give about 4-5 feeders, but they are smaller bugs. By about a year old, you should be feeding him 3-4 bugs every other day. As he gets a bit older, if you chose or he needs, you could go to 3 days a week. Here’s a video that may help better explain about how to judge if your guy is getting overfed. He is very beautiful btw. 🥰
