when do carpets quit?

I spend a lot of time in my chameleon room checking them all the time. Well, I just got back from the reptile store (I found some 3/4" crickets) and there were 13 eggs on the floor of my female carpet's cage. This makes the 3rd batch of eggs from one mating. I have no way of telling if they are fertile or not. I tried to reintroduce her to the male since it had been 3 1/2 months since her last clutch and she wanted NOTHING to do with him. Obviously. If she's going to keep laying eggs, perhaps I should introduce him in a couple of weeks. Looks like she's going to lay no matter what I do.

Anyone else keep carpets out there? Darn eggs take 9-12 months to hatch. My first eggs are from January So I still have a long ways to go. No instant gratification from carpets, that's for sure.

I have a pair of sub adults from Kevin/Dooley but they arent old enuff to be bred yet. Im hoping in about 4-5 more months to put them together. I know you can breed them at an earlier age than panthers but I'm trying to wait til they are close to a yr old.

FYI they are sexually mature at 4 months. You didn't say how old yours are, but she may just start dropping infertile eggs whatever you do. Do some more reading on these guys. It is interesting reading.

Once the girls started cycling, the Furcifer lateralis major would lay eggs every 6 weeks whether you wanted them to or not.

You can breed them 2 weeks after laying. Not saying it's necessarily the best for their health, but you'll very likely end up with another clutch whether you do it or not.

Your 3rd clutch could be fertile, but may have a lower fertility rate than the 1st or 2nd clutch. 3 weeks after laying should get you under the wire before they use stored sperm & become unreceptive again.

Definitely not necessary to wait a year to breed them, but I've done it, and without infertile clutches in the meantime too :)

Laurie, I'm excited for you to get him!
