when did your chameleon get their colors?

My male panther chameleon just turned 4 months old. Well, maybe.... his hatch date estimate is 4/15-5/1 but I think he was born closer to 5/1 as he just seems more 4 months than 4.5 months... He's not showing ANY colors yet. Is this normal? I thought at least one color would have developed by now at least. I'm a little discouraged and thinking im doing something wrong as a lot of male panther chameleons for SALE at this age are showing colors. However, I do have to say I have yet to handle him (since i placed him in the cage) as he still doesnt trust me that much yet. I got him a month ago. A lot of pictures I see they are out of their enclosures and im thinking maybe thats why? maybe he would show colors if he was outdoors? Im not sure. I want to put him on a tree outdoors (a fake tree of course) so he can enjoy some time out there but I cannot get him to come out. Im doing everything by the books right now it seems so I dont THINK its my husbandry but maybe im wrong. Or maybe hes just a slow grower lol He has had 2 sheds since I got him. This was a few days ago with his second shed

I would say that is totally normal. Dont take him out if he does not come out by himself, and he probably wont considering he is new to his home and he is small and “weak”. Did you grt your husbandry checked?

Yes I have it in some other thread. I just took a couple more pics of him before he went into his pothos and got ready for bed

It took Pete about 7 months for him to show color. When he did, oh boy did he. It just takes time.

Mine (male panther) started showing colors between 4-6 months. I didn't take him out, but he escaped (my bad) a couple of times, and after that, he's been more than happy to climb aboard my extended arm (In fact, he charges my arm any time the doors are open. )

When he started showing, he developed what I call "hungry colors"—not exactly firing up, but a more colorful display than when at rest or basking.

He's always most colorful at/near the top of his enclosure; when hunting/exploring the nether regions, he stays quite dark.

thanks everyone!! this make me feel so much better. All these chameleon places keep posting their babies for sale and they all have explosive coloring so I got so worried. I honestly just cannot wait to find out what colors he gets. Im sure hes going to be a stunner!

It took peach fuzz like 3 weeks! (I got him at 3 months)

Mine is 8.5 months now and still hasn’t got all his colors. At least I don’t think? Maybe he will always just be red white and blue 😌 this is him yesterday

at around 1.5YO they kinda get they're colors settle and more "permanent". Its also subjective to the locale. Ambilobes will go through many different color changes. Mine currently is yellow body red bar. But this summer he had blue bars. 🤷🏻‍♂️. after they pass 1 year is when they'll "mature" in colors.

It was. If I don't quote, it's generally for the immediately preceding post.
Sometimes I get caught in a cross-post; if I catch it, I'll go back and edit. ;)
