Whats a good camera?

for beginner SLR,
I suggest Nikon D70.

I am about to contemplate in buying either D70 or Canon XSI.
My roommate has D70, so just for the heck of it, I might go ahead and get Canon.

They are about the same price anyway.

i have a nikon d60 and love it now that i have figured it out! i am fixing to buy the new d90 when it is released. i hear that it is going to be an awsome camera i guess i will find out. i am partial to nikon cameras, cannons are good but i will stay with nikons. the d60 is a good camera but for the money you might look at buying a d40 and a couple of good lenses. i have a macro 18-55VR 55-200VR and a 70-300VR i would highly recommend the VR ( vibration reduction ) lenses !

D90 is already out.;)
I've played with it all ready.
The video mode is sweet, but you have to manual focus the lens the whole time.
It has 12.3 card clogging pixels and the same sensor as the D300.
It also has the sensor cleaning.

the only problem ive had with the nikons, are the probs with dust finding its way in to the lenses and the actual body. so when im taking the lens off, usually i have to shield it from the outside so i dont have to clean it out.

To be honest with you... The guy at my camera store cleans 3 Canon sensors to every Nikon sensor.
Most DSLR's have problems with dust because the big boy DSLR's have o-rings around the switches and knobs.
The smaller D40, D60, D80, XTi, XSi, 40D, etc are not weather proof.
Keep a rocket blower in you camera bag. That way when you do have dust, then you can blow it out.

The D70 is ancient in the electronics world.
Go for the D40, D90(better with the old good lenses), or XSi.

check out the classifides here. there is a cannon s2-Is for sale. it is an advanced point and shoot camera with a heck of a 12x optical zoom and alot of slr type of features. i had one and it was a great camera !

thats what i think, hear from other photographers, and have had experience with. but i may be wrong, because i haven't shot with the newest series.

i spend all day at the canon forum.i havent seen 1 person say it works for them..i have a 400d and shoot at high mag(1:1 - 5:1 life size) so every spec of dust shows up alot when your at high mags.its never worked for me..do you use a macro lens as dust marks are more likely to show up when your using them?.if yours does work then great..Your one of the lucky ones..i just cleaned my senser yesterdat..i use green cleane wet and dry swabs.
