What type of water?

Ive read to use distilled water, then while doing research tonight on a different website it said do not used distilled water.

Whats the verdict?

I don't think there is a verdict.

Your tap water might be fine. It might not be. You need to check with your water authority and see what's in it. If it's loaded with fluoride and chlorine or chloramine you will want to consider using a filtered or distilled water.

Note that if your water has a lot of limestone (is "hard" water) that's not really a problem, the limestone is calcium carbonate which is what we use to supplement our chameleon's calcium intake, so don't worry at all about that.

Note also that you do not want to use "softened" water because the process puts too much sodium in the water.

You cannot go wrong using purified or distilled water, but you might not have to.

I've heard repeatedly that Tucson water is some of the worst water, not sure why.

Distilled water is 89 cents a gallon so its not too difficult to buy. I just didn't want to hurt him, maybe mist with distilled and put purified in his dripper?

Thanks for the response!

Oh, you're most welcome. I'm glad you found your way here!

You can't hurt him with distilled. You can use it in the mister and the dripper. I'm sure your mister recommends distilled water, but purified might be acceptable and less expensive.

I love these forums, hoping my little guy is gonna make it past the adjusting stage. Buying a mister and light timer within the week.

Might be a silly question: Is a fogger the same as a mister?

I work at petco so I try to make use of the employee discount, they only sell foggers.

I don't think they are. I think misters spray a mist periodically, but foggers fill the cage with fog periodically.

What kind of chameleon do you have? I think foggers are usually used with Jacksons and Fischers and other little species that like a wet world while misters are used for Veiled and Panthers who like a warm world that gets rained on occasionally.

I have a baby veiled, about 2 months. Ive only had him for about four days. Misters are just so expensive, may take me a while. Any ideas for a cheap DIY one?

Thanks for your help again, its greatly appreciated!

Maybe rather than a mister you might try a pump style garden sprayer. Here's a picture of one:

This will let you spray a quart or more of water without putting any strain on your wrists or arms. You can get them at any place with a good garden department. I got mine at WalMart and paid about $12.

Would bottled water be okay to mist and let the cham drink from??? You can pick up cases of 24 for 2 bux!!!!!

I use filtered water I purchase. You should make sure it's not fluoridated. If you have an automatic mister, it might well specify distilled water.

RO water at the warehouse and tap water at the house on weekends. I will not put tap water in my aquazamp...
