What is this abomination I found in my roach tank? It looks like something that came out of the Cheronobyl disaster!! It was missing 3 legs and had some type of liquid bubbling out of its side... Is it a failed molt? It was half alive when I found it!!

Looks to me like it dismembered itself when it was trying to molt. Strange indeed!

I would still feed it nonetheless. My cham loves em cause they're soft with no exoskeleton

Oh I wasn't sure if it was safe to feed cause I was wondering if it was mutated or something...LOL. It had a weird liquid bubbling out of it though and it couldn't even walk... But it was alive

Looks like a freshly molted roach that its cage mates may have been nibbling on...when they're soft like that, they're fair game for the other roaches in the cage to chow on. Super creepy looking for sure!

Are they really cannibals? I mean they have food. Sometimes I find dead roaches that have their insides gutted out

Sometimes the babies will (i think its the babies doing it?) eat the insides of dead roaches. They will eat eachother. Maybe add more protein through ground nuts, spirulina, etc. and see if it helps (if this keeps happening.) The goopy stuff it was leaking is the insides. Chameleons seem to favor freshly molted roaches so they are great snacks! I've even gotten picky eaters to start eating roaches by using freshly molted ones.

I get them protein by mixing Fluker's Cricket Dust (food) with ground up cat food. I killed this one roach because I didn't know what the heck it was and I thought I needed to put it out of its misery...Lol. Now I know what to do ;)

Speaking of molting, what humidity does it need to be for them to successfully do this?

Dont use cat food if you intend to use these roaches as feeders. The animal protein and other things can cause issues (like gout) in chameleons. I wouldnt use them as feeder for a good month after they stop eating cat/dog food personally.

Humidity doesnt need to be too high. Mine is very low and they molt just fine.
