What temps are Trioceros q. quadricornis eggs incubated at?

If the temps are lower than the ambient temps of the house, how do breeders get the right temperatures?

There are incubators that have the ability to cool as well as heat. Some people, I've read this more on gecko forums, use a wine fridge if it's able to go to the desired temp. I've never used either, so I don't have any experience with them. It would probably be easier to keep the lower temps in a basement.

I would never have imagined you could get one to both heat and cool for a couple of hundred dollars. I don't have a basement and I keep my house quite hot in the summer--78F. My husband wants to dig a wine cellar..... If he only knew what I'd want to use it for!

Be careful if you do decide to go with an incubator that can cool. Some of them have bad reviews, because they fail and over heat. I'm not sure which brand is a "good" one. The wine cellar would probably be better. :D

Thanks Melissa. The wine cellar is a huge project that depends on a lot of things happening and might not ever be done.

How do other people do it? A wine fridge? I don't have a basement.

Get a new model ExoTerra and you're good to go.

I agree I would go with an exoTerra. I have the old model and it does great both heating and cooling.I learned to check mine with a instant read thermometer as mine reads 4 degrees off. If I adjust for that all is fine.

Yes what Laurie said. Don't go by the displayed temperature they are always off. I use a separate thermometer placed inside to get the temps correct.

Just wondering, since all you have is a male, why are you worrying about incubating eggs?

Don't you remember we talked about it on the phone? I wanted to try to breed quads. I was talking of driving the eggs half way across the country to get them into the hands of someone with experience and you were laughing at me saying it wasn't all that difficult.

I'm considering putting together a kit to convert any insulated box, like a small old fridge, etc. into an accurate reliable incubator that can heat or cool for less than $200. Would there be any interest in something like this? There would be some DIY involved, but not too much.

I would be interested. What would the high/lows be, and would it be a digital or analog controller? I've read a lot of bad reviews for some of the ready made incubators that can heat/cool. It would be nice to have something that was more reliable, without having to spend over $500.

Digital with accuracy to 0.5 degree F. Customizable settings for the set point plus settable hysteresis to allow for a sweet spot where the heat and cool loops won't fight each other. Possibly an alarm for over/under limit.
