I was wondering if i could put any other animal into my cham cage? one that won't hurt him and he won't hurt them. and if i wanted to make a living vivarium for my cham how would i start?

no not a good idea

first problem is....i have found that chams like to eat lots of different things . including other lizards. plus the only other thing you could really house with him would be some sort of amphibian ...now the second problem is that a amphibian would produce different bacteria and some like frogs or toads produce poison and also if not eaten could stress out your cham causing him to be mean and could also cause death. a cham is a private solitary animal that likes to be left alone for the most part...i would enjoy him alone. anything else alive in that cage should be food.

thanks

Hey thanks for the reply. it was just an idea. well too bad for that one. any ideas on a live vivarium? how would i start? know of any websites that have this info?

live viviarium

well it take time to get one of them right....you need a balanced ecosystem in there so you have decomposition growing plants and humidity. you start one and keep adding until its self sustaining without mold or mildew. once you got it right tree frogs, fire belly newts salamanders...and dart frogs are very cool creatures

Nice. i have tree frogs and a firebelly newt. i think i might just try my luck with that. thanks for your help

What kind of chameleon do you have? Pygmy chameleons do well in small groups and in planted vivariums, although I don't know if there are any other animals they can coexist with.

If you are going to have a planted vivarium you will want to start springtail and terrestrial isopod cultures since they act as natural janitors and eat bacteria/mold/waste.

living vivarium

I made a living viv ive got an med xtall exoterra (im in England so glass is better than mesh) my local pet shop had all the stuff, I put cork on the sides (these fell off so masticed a plastic clip to the glass then ran cable ties though the cork, worked mych better I also masticked half a fake rock to the tank upside down and put a hanging plant in it) then covered the glass with gorilla glue and a bark eath mix on 3 sides, I found the glue dosent stick that well to the glass but whatever glues you use it MUST BE WATERPROOF. I then put special drainage stones in the bottom ( grate tipe, put a cut bottle in one corner with the cat upwards so you can suck the exses water out) then I put reptile friendly compost in found it all ver wet after a while so mixed it with reptile friendly sand and maybe some small gravil to help dry things out a bit, I hand mist and shower him regularly and automatic mister would drench it my fogger fill it up every 2 days or so. I also put the tank on a slight slope so the water drains to the corner with the bottle. Then planted reptile friendly plants and a bit of wood, I am going to change some of the plants soon they don't like it so damp of hes sat on them so much they are flattened lol go for more robust flexible plsnts in now going to het more wood for him to climb on he was very small and he didn't need to much climbing fame as he could use leaves but now hes a teen he needs some more robust stuff :) he also has a 5ft ficus that he climbs on next to his tank :) and questions let me know ;) xx
