What mesh to use?

I am building a new cage and would like to know what type of mesh would be best. I was told that 1/4" hardware cloth would work, but I am a little skeptical about rust and crickets getting out. Would that work?

Mesh used

Aluminum window screen is used on most commercial screen cages, is available @ home improvement stores, and doesn't rust. The downside is some Chams will climb on the screen, and if done alot, the claws can be worn down. Do not use fiberglass screen, it can poke into the skin of Cham and keeper alike.
There is a Pet Screen that is softer at Home Depot that would solve this, but it is more expensive, and harder to see through, and only comes stocked in one size roll.
There are other meshes, but these are all I have worked with due to the fact loose bugs in the house are not a (comfortable) option for my marriage! Many of the Florida and California keepers can give you meshes they use in their outdoor enclosures that have holes big enough for feeders to pass through. That is, if you can have feeders visiting other areas of your home!

I am also building a cage and i purchased the aluminum mesh from the screen department of home depot. I like it because it is small and easy to see through. One problem i have is that it has a run in it so i have to return it.

I dont like regular hardware cloth - I feel there is potential for harm to their feet and snouts. But then I also dont like the screen most people use, due to potential for toe damage, so I am perhaps hard to please LOL. I like coated metal (as used on quality bird cages) or PVC coated hardware cloth. Then again, most of my cages are wood/pegboard (no screen).

I use silver fiberglass window screen. IF you like to look at the last cage I build along with the tools that I used, visit My Profile and take a look at my cage album.
