What Kind of Water?

Great question. Everyones water is different due to the different parts of the world we live in. Most use tap water. RO water is ideal, and a RO system can be installed in any house for around $100(I think). I use regular tap water, no RO, and treat it with repti-safe.

You pay $5 fo a half gallon of water!? I use 2 gallons a day, thats would be $140 a week, $7300 a year! Im assuming Im missing somthing here?

Reptisafe is not going to remove anything other than chlorine out of the water. It won't remove mercury, lead, arsenic, etc etc etc.
I use and always have used RO.
Rain water IS distilled water. Distilled and RO are of similar quality (RO is much easier to DIY than distilling it). Chams drink rain water. 1+1=2

(I see you are from Indiana...the above website tested for 35 chemicals in your water. Found 3 {Total haloacetic acids (HAAs) Total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) Nitrate} and has the audacity to score your water at 9 out of 10......THEN Goes on to say that IT DID NOT TEST for over 184 other dangerous chemicals.) You do the math.

IMO drinking tap water is just asking for 1 in 5 cancer rates, 1 in 5 thyroid problems, and just about every other 1 in 5 chronic disease that has become an epidemic and to put it honestly you're either completely ignorant to it or a complete idiot if you think tap water is safe. Safe is just a euphamism for 'sanitized', it does not mean it is purified.
It's no mystery the only thing that's changed significantly is all the chemicals and heavy metals in tap water. And all the drugs that people take to deal with these disease ends up in the water as well.
(medications are the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA btw, accounting for over 5,000 deaths per day from medications 'taken as prescribed'.)
Sorry I am in the water business and it pains me to see that in 2012 people are still asking if tap water is okay, when every year it is getting worse and worse, not better.

Aleris, you need to find out what is in the tap water where you live before making that decision. As noted, many places add fluoride and some of us do not feel comfortable giving our chameleons fluoride. If your water is not fluoridated, you might feel comfortable using tap water that has been minimally processed (faucet filter, resting 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate, stuff like that). Currently I purchase water from a machine in front of the grocery store. It is RO/charcoal filtered (it says) and costs me 30 cents a gallon.
The US gov. allows up to 500ppm....... My water SUCKED!!! I have crystal clear ice cubes now

That is a lot of information on water for sure. Thanks for all the opinions and information. I will most likely start using distilled and then look at an RO system to be on the safe side. If I am going to invest this much in a cham, I sure don't want to do anything that is going to potentially harm him.
