what is this?

I bought my Jacksons cham this past february at a local show and Im almost 100% sure that he didnt have this issue with his feet at that time. not totally sure when it actually started either. Im assuming that it is a reason why he is falling more and more while trying to climb onto and moving around his cage

My guess is he yanked a nail off and it's a) pissed off! and b) infected. If he's willing, you could try soaking it in diluted iodine (HERE, ferret recommends 1 part iodine to 10 parts water). You might try neosporin. The important thing is to get him to a vet because for it to be that big, it probably does have an abscess or something else that's bad going on.
 
Definitely get him to a vet sooner rather than later. And I agree about the iodine, which should help if there is an external cause for the infection, but he needs proper treatment and investigation to see if there are other issues.
