what is this on my chams back??

Is his heat source sitting directly on the screen part on top of his cage and maybe the screen itself is getting too hot? That is very odd for that to happen with 25 watt bulbs?

Sigh,

It isn't just the heat of the bulb, but the amount of time he sits under it that contributes to burns. Heat builds up.

My question is: what sort of cage is it? Most people have metal screen cages so don't think about this, but if you have a fabric mesh cage the animal can climb on vines up near the ceiling and push the cage up with his body to actually touch the bulb. It's very important to make sure that the interior climbing areas don't allow for that, or that the bulb is high enough that even if the animal were standing on the highest vine, he'd have some space for safety.

hello again,i do have a standard bulb, not them silly energy saving things, and i have a complete mesh cage, its an exo terra on,not a metal screen, and the bulb is not sitting directly ontop of the mesh,it is above the mesh an inch or so,and he can stand up on all 4 legs and not touch the top of his mesh ceiling either, his vine that is under the basking area runs horizontal and not vertical so he isnt touching the mesh what soever..im a little baffled by these burns...

Okay...I just sort of had to ask. I'm at a loss as to how he got the burn then....

Regardless, I think you need to treat that like a burn.

i am monitoring his temps very closely now and have the temp set just right now,but i still just dont understand  he has a good appetitie and is hunting like normal, when i took him outside yesterday he colored up and sucked up the sun as usual..i dont know, just has me confused..

I'm at a loss - could you post pics of the setup as it was? Maybe Columbo is on the forum somewhere and he can spot the cause......:)
