Hi there! I’m looking to get a chameleon, surprise surprise
I have owned a collection of geckos and snakes over the past 8 years and have been sitting on the idea of getting a chameleon for about a year now. However I can’t seem to choose which one will be best suited for what I want/have. I have a glass viv with a mesh top that I plan to keep it in. It’s measurements are 18x18x18 (I, of course, am willing to change it to something slightly bigger if there are none that would happily fit in it however I don’t have the space for anything huge). I already have a uv light for it. I would like a chameleon that doesn’t get too stressed by handling, I know they’re more look at pets but of course good husbandry dictates getting them out to give the viv a clean, check they’re healthy, etc and I would like one that will be okay with handling, albeit infrequent. I also would like one that doesn’t get too big, but also has a fairly decent life span— I would hate to have it die of old age after only two years or something. I really quite like flapnecked chameleons (Chamaeleo Dilepis) as I think they’re gorgeous and they apparently live about 5 years, however from what I’ve read they get to about 12in, which if that’s the case then they won’t fit in the viv. And of course, I’d like one that is relatively hardy and forgiving as it is my first chameleon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance!
