What is Best Age to Sell Graceful Chameleons?

Hi,

I have captive bread Graceful Chameleons (Chamaeleo gracilis). These chameleons originate from Central Africa, and can attain a total length of 15".
Chameleons in general tend to be on the nervous side but the Graceful is a hardy species so it makes a great pet. They are now between 4-5 months old. I did not want to sell them too young and wanted to make sure this is an appropriate age. So what is the appropriate time to start selling them?

They are all doing very well and have great appetite. I have also separated all of them into separate cages at this time. Some are automatically misted with MistKing systems and others are manually misted twice a day. The ratio of male to female is almost 50-50.

If it is the correct time to start selling them then I would like to know how I post to the classified section. As a new member am I allowed to do this? If not then what do I need to do so that I can?

I will show you some pictures of them along their journey to this moment in time.

If anyone is interested in these little cuties just let me know. I can be email at [email protected].
Also, If there are any questions about what I have learned just ask.

Sincerely,
Terry Lund

Beautiful little guys you have there...congrats!

At 4-5 months they are pretty much safe to be shipped and go to new homes. Glad to see someone working and doing well with this species. :)

What beautiful little ones! It looks like you have done a fantastic job with them. I agree with everyone else about them being ready to ship to new homes.

How much for shipping?

I have never gotten a live animal in the mail... how would we go about it? I know that the only days that I could have it delivered would be on Wed. or Fri. those are the only days that some one would be home all day to get the package. I would want some one here to get the little one out as soon as possible. They are just so cute.

Send me a personal email and I will give you my cell number so that we can talk.

Congrats on raising these guys for 4 or 5 months! How long did it take for these to hatch? I'm assuming you have a good bit of knowledge on this species or another similar one, either that are your success is serendipitous. I must ask, how much of your knowledge did you get by reading the Chameleon Forums vs. other sources of info, or do you have experience with other common species like veileds? Either way, it's great to see someone working with this species and doing well with them. I'd like to see others breeding them as well as Senegal chameleons. I'd love to see both of those species get established in captivity. I'm assuming you started with one or more wild caught pairs or did these hatch from eggs laid by a gravid WC female. If more keepers would focus on acclimating multiple WC pairs, that would be fantastic because there could be multiple CH bloodlines available to other keepers.

If you still have the adults, I'd love to hear what you might have gone through in acclimating them (deworming them, etc.) and how difficult or easy that was for you. Congrats again.

call me stupid

They look exactly like veils. all of the pix except for the top center, are dead ringers for veils. i'm glad you posted these pix. i had never heard of gracefuls, and will have to examine my future purchases a liitle more closely. thanx.

pamnsam94,

I am putting a document together that I will eventually post in this chameleon breeding forum. I will start it on another thread. I just have to put it all together, the timeline together, techniques and pictures to go with it. Hopefully, with in the next week as my life is crazy busy all of the time.

Can you point me to a care sheet for Gracefuls? I had considered them back when I first got into chams, and now my wife wants one herself with a disposition similar to Harley (my Senegal that passed a while back, she was super friendly and calm for a WC cham). I don't want to get anything WC and am just wondering if I would be able to get her a Graceful if they are similar in care to a Senegal.

Feel free to PM me a response.

There care would be the same as a veiled. https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/senegal/

I use Zoo Med's Reptibreeze cages as they are reasonably priced and well suited for chameleons.

I use MistKing misters with timer and mist the little guys for about a 1 minute 5 times a day. They like the humidity.

I line the bottom of the cage with towel folded in half and then put newspapers on top of that. This makes sure that excess water does not leak out of the cage.

I use ficus tree and other live plants that are not poisonous in case they bite the plant (they have never do this to my knowledge).

I use Zoo Med Powersun 160W bulb (they come with a 1 year warranty just keep original packaging and register them) with a proper reflector and ceramic socket.

I have been feeding them crickets dust with calcium everyday and add vitamins about once a week. I usually get my crickets from http://www.flukerfarms.com/ as they have the best price. I put the crickets in a feeding container inside the cage.

I gut load the crickets with Fluker's High-Calcium Cricket Diet http://www.amazon.com/Flukers-Hi-Calcium-Cricket-Feed/dp/B0002DRJD6/ref=pd_bxgy_petsupplies_img_y

and Cricket Quencher http://www.amazon.com/Flukers-16-Ou...1323&sr=8-1&keywords=flukers+cricket+quencher

You can usually pick these up at your local pet store.

I feed them flies that I get from http://www.grubco.com/store/store_product_detail.cfm?Product_ID=10

I have a butterfly cage I leave outside to let the flies hatch and feed them a honey powdered milk and vitamins paste on a plate and a wet sponge for water.

I clean the cages once a week and I try to get them outside when I can.

The temperature in the house is around 78 F in summer and 75 F in winter months.

These are CB Graceful Chameleons. If you are interested in getting one you can PM me. I have taken great care of them and they are doing great.

Thank you,
Terry
