What have you changed?

Since joining this forum I have tweaked my temps, removed waterfall, invested in proper gutloading, added a dripper, raised basking light and ceramic, trimmed tie wraps, bought basking light, changed supplements, started making outdoor enclosure, added more variety of fruit and veg, done more hand spraying, raked Popeye outside more often. Can't believe how much advice I have got from one site. THANK YOU.

as you learn you will continue to make changes. I've learned alot since I been here to. I was in luck with hooking up with members locally to help me get started. Glad your enjoying the site.

I switched from ReptiGLO to ReptiSUN as my UVB tube of choice

I used to try to feed my chams a little bit every day, twice a day if possible, and was guilty/sad if I was unable to do so. I no longer feel guilty about skipping a day, indeed I will purposefully skip a day periodically.

I used to think I was a very rare breed of person, to like chameleons and bugs etc. I no longer feel quite so special / abnormal. :)

I hear ya about feeling abnormal about how much we love our chameleons. My friends constantly mess with me about how much time I spend, but they don't have one. I'm sure if they did they'd realize how easy it is to become obsessed with these amazing creatures. Speaking of meeting people from the forum near us; I'm new to the forum and would love to meet up with others from around me. Is there a section for groups that meet up on a semi regular basis or a way to find people near us?

I switched from mercury vapor to a linear bulb and a bask bulb.

I switched from commercial gutload to a homemade recipe (one of Sandrachameleons).

I Free range as much as i can, take the kids outside as well.

Started a roach colony, a cricket colony, and am working on breeding superworms... And I spend as much time inspecting the insects at the reptile stores now as i do the reptiles...

Have switched to homemade enclosures!

I have made maybe 5 different variations of feeder cups not to mention new drippers every time I find a better looking jug to hold water Lol...

I've started to see everything in relation to how it may benefit my chams!!!! When me and the GF are at the plant nursery I make comments about how much Kami and Leon would like to hang in this tree or that tree or if something is toxic to chams Lol. They start taking over your mind!!!!

Maybe those eyes have been slowly hypnotizing me to be a cham slave!!!

so far, the only off-line social group that seems to be permitted to use this forum is in SoCa. But there's quite possibly a reptile club near you.

The one thing that I have changed is the way I feed a female Veiled. My first female back in 2008 I was told to feed her all that she wanted. Now, as we all know, females can be real gluttons when it comes to food. Sadly she laid two huge clutches of infertiles (both clutches of over 100 eggs each), the first at 14 months of age and the second at 18 months of age. Sadly, she died a month after that. I also had her basking temp too high - not high enough to cause burns, but high enough to encourage her to lay.

When I got Amy, my second female, I took on board what I had learnt on the forum about keeping females at a lower temp and feeding less food. As a result, she lived twice as long as my first and only laid one clutch of infertiles at the age of 20 months. She lived to be a little over 3 years old, whereas my first female lived for just 18 months (a year of which was with me).

I switched from a red heat lamp to a normal house bulb.

I started switching his heat lamp off at night.

I got timers for the lights

I removed the substrate from the cage

I started using fresh and dried gutload

I purchased a dripper

I replaced the fake plants for real ones

I bought a hygrometer and thermometer

I bought a D3 supplement for twice monthly use.

I'm sure there's more but I can't think of them...this forum has been such a useful resource!
