What does a Burn Look Like?

My girl Rinoa doesn't sit directly under her heat lamp; I have it set more toward the front/middle of the enclosure, and she's usually perched at the back. I've measured her favorite perch in the low 80s with a digital thermometer, so I'm not especially worried about burns, I'm mostly just a nervous keeper. I guess I just want to be able to address any concerns before they can cause damage to her. Thanks in advance for the help.

Typical places burns show up are along the dorsal spines (and loss of the spines themselves), along the upper part of the back, upper portion of the casque, and on knees. Usually a burn starts off as a discolored patch of skin that shows constantly the same...unlike the normal "emotional" color changes the skin around it does. It may look pale grey, but it can also look dark grey. That might depend on how deep the burn goes or the degree of burning...not sure. However, there are skin infections that can look like this, so usually the location and husbandry info help diagnose them.

Thanks for describing burns to me. I feel a bit better now that I know what to look for, even though, like I said, she doesn't really put herself into a position to become burned. I'll just keep an eye out to make sure she doesn't decide to climb underneath the heat lamp.
