What do you think of this...I want opinions

So last night I was on a separate forum in which the people are very rude and we were discussing another animal and their husbandry. So after a couple of hours with trying to argue with me someone made a comment last night.

"We are all NOVICE keepers until we breed our animals..."

So I guess I have to breed my chameleon to become a good keeper of chameleons...Hmm. I wonder who made that rule up.

So I guess what he's saying is that you have to breed to take proper care of an animal?? Like you have to breed dogs to give good care to your dogs?? What I think of this post--

I know its really got me worked up to be honest...I guess I should shorten Isabella's life just so I can become a good keeper. OH my god does that just irritate me...

Not going to name that forum but a lot of the senior members can be helpful but then most of the time they just have their head so far up their...Yeah that they should be suffocating rather than speaking.

It's a very silly thing to say, that's for sure. Unless he/she meant the difference between amateur and professional and just worded it badly
Sounds like just trying to be a jerk though, being able to look after animals well do not necessarily mean breeding them.
Probably someone who has bred them trying to sound like an expert at keeping them - 'I've bred them, I'm a great keeper' - not always the same thing. Ask them if they've seen a puppy farm or some battery hens recently

I think it should be "we are novice keepers until we have personally had animals that live past the usual lifespan for that species." In exotics that's what means you were doing things right. Breeding your animals only counts if it is something really hard to breed (mellers, parsons, prehensile tailed skinks, etc). Anyone can throw two veileds together and get them to breed and most likely to hatch even if they do a little research. Breeding doesn't mean squat in my eyes. As soon as someone comes on and says "I'm a breeder" I immediately assume they are not an expert by any stretch since they are using that title to assert their experience. And my assumption has been proven correct time and time again! The breeders that actually care about their animals' welfare don't have to tell people they are breeders every chance they get.

Yeah, she's just trying to put you down to make herself feel big, lol. Don't get worked up. She needs to be either pitied or laughed at. Both if you can manage it

That's a good rule. But it still means I'm a novice (at keeping Chameleons) maybe I should get breeding to make myself into a proper expert

And by no means am I saying I am an expert because I am still learning with my Veiled as well. But it is insulting. But yeah I probably shouldn't get worked up about it. That person obviously is talking out of there a**. Pardon my FRONCH lol

And that is an extremely good point in my opinion. I would be a notch about novice with my chameleon but I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. But that is what I am striving for and honestly what I want to go to college for.

I haven't had a chameleon reach golden years yet (George is the oldest at 5), so the rule applies to me as well! I do not consider myself an expert and am still learning, as I always will be. That should be another rule - you are a novice keeper if you think you are done learning!

Haha, yeah. Let's not make any more rules though - There is no such thing as an expert anyway, so you are a novice keeper if you are a keeper at all.
It is the wise attitude to have, plus it makes discussions more polite.
