What do mealworms turn into?

Some of my mealworms have started cacooning, I was wondering what they become and are they good feeders?

They turn into beetles.

Are they healthier than mealworms? Could they be a staple or at least fed regularly?

Up to 10% of your chameleons diet can be mealworms without any trouble. Another 10% -20% can easily be beetles of any non-toxic type. Pehaps more if you are also using a lot of soft bodied feeders, like silkworms.

Not all chameleons like mealworms beetles (perhaps a bitter taste)

If you don't feed off all your beetles, they'll mate and you'll have baby mealworms. They have a pretty self-sustaining community, and all you have to do is continue to feed them and change the bedding when it needs it (I use wheat bran and it turns sand-like). I think I started with 100 mealworms and have never needed to buy anymore as they reproduce like bunnies!

The "sand" is fraz. Bran works, but a better substrate (for gutloading purposes) would be something like this:
