What kind of breeding would a person have to do to make a purple bar, I DO NOT PLAN ON DOING THIS, i was just curious because i have seen advertizments and want to know how they do it. I dont think its as easy as breeding a RB and a BB together, or is it?

They are ultra rare and as you can imagine expensive.

The reason why i ask is because in another thread some one made they said that a female will genetically produce offspring that look like her brothers. So thats where it gets complicated, like you would need 50/50 RB BB in a female and then go with RB or BB male. Or am i wrong?

Hmmmmm...

I don't know the origins of the Cham above but it appears to be partially if not full blooded ambanja. Note the yellow around the mouth. That's just my opinion. Ambanjas will throw purple bars from time to time.

See ya,

Todd

Ok so there is no such thing as an actual purple barred cham?

Goodness. I'd want a pair of those!

I think I saw a site sponsor had one on one if their websites. Not sure which though.

Well

I wouldn't say that... However, I assumed you were talking about ambilobes when you were saying rb and bb. I have definately seen purple bar ambanjas. I don't think crossing a bb ambilobe with a rb will yield purple barred offspring...

I am about 99% sure the pic attached is an ambanja. I have only seen true purple bars in ambanjas, other than that, I cannot help you.

Edit: As todd mentioned, if referring to RB and BB ambilobes, it is not that simple. The offspring will either be RB, BB, or have both in their barring. But, the blue and red coloration is splotchy, I suppose you could say. The pigment isn't thinned out or spread out enough to appear to be purple, from what I have seen. (Best way for me to describe it)

Someone on here was recently selling offspring from a RB and BB, I believe it was Cain, if you look up his pics, you will see a good example of what I mean by the splotchy coloring. They were pretty regardless :)

Lol I'm sure they assumed it meant red+blue=purple.

Which I'm pretty sure that isn't how it goes with chameleons genetics?

Gesang from chameleonsnorthwest has a breeding pair and I purchased a pair from them.. so if anyone would know about them I think it would be her :) They have some amzing chameleons imo :p

Yes...there are some Ambanjas that are called Purple Bar. The picture you have is from Northwest Chameleons. FLChams has Brantley, who is purple bar and Amazing Blue Reptiles have Purple bar Ambanjas. There are other small breeders that occassionally advertise them as well.

That's interesting never saw it before. But now that I think about it when sancho get's fired up he has purple in his bars also. :D
