Just got my panther chameleon paid 350$. 4 days later it had a cloacal prolapse had to pay 500 for surgery that was yesterday. it happened again and slipped through the stitches and I am out of money the doc says "try to put it back in yourself with a Q-tip and hold it there" sounds crazy and I don't want to hurt him any worse

Please understand before I write this that I am not in any way putting you down or saying you have done anything wrong, but I think the advice I am about to give could be taken that way. I want to suggest that keepers look into pet insurance for situations like this. We just don't know what the future brings when we bring these amazing creatures into our homes and the insurance can definitely help.

As for your situation, if you are unable to resolve the issue yourself, I would try to ask the vet about a payment plan. Just be careful and ask all the potential costs ahead of time. Hopefully a follow up visit will not cost as much.

Sorry you are going through this.

Did you get the prolapse back in again? If not, are you keeping it moist with K-Y jelly?
Sometimes the prolapse can pick up a fungal infection when it's out so if the chameleon shows signs of illness even after its back in, it needs to be looked at right away.

I'm keeping it moist with water every 20 mins I don't trust putting anything else I've been giving the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory

K-Y jelly is what we use and the vets recommend...it works better than water...keeps it moist longer. DO NOT USE VASELINE. Are you going to stay up all night to put water in it?
