What do I do with it now?!

Ugh! I looked at my Dubias last night and one had what appeared to be it's final moult and was sporting the most enormous pair of wings! What do I do with it now? It's far too big for either of the chams to eat, lol! Can these things actually fly? I don't wanna take the lid of and have the yucky thing fly up in my face!

They don't fly. They will just keep making more roaches! lol An adult panther or veild can probably eat an adult dubia but I usually just let the adults be and feed off the medium sized nymphs. If your colony grows too big, sell some to local cham keepers.

an adult male as you have described will easily be eaten by an adult veiled male and female. my two would even take adult discoid roaches which are twice the size

I'll just keep it for now then, and hope that I get another of the opposite sex so they start breeding! Tommy would be able to eat it but he isn't interested in them at all. It's almost as big as Amy's head, so no way can I feed it to her, although she's such a piggy I reckon she'd try, lol!

I think Amy would have a damn good try with it! Lol, a certain bearded dragon i know wouldn't say no to it. Jasper is a fatty he'll eat and eat and eat. :p

I'm not willing to risk my dear sweet Amy. I'll just leave it alone and open the lid of the Dubia tub very carefully from now on!

Bradley, if that is an adult male, do the females not have wings? I have some other huge ones too, they just aren't so long in the body and don't have wings. Ugh!

Lol, I did think about putting it in the freezer! The only thing stopping me was the thought of free food! Hopefully they'll breed and I'll get loads of roach nymphs! Now that'd be cool! So, for now, I'll let the big ugly thing get on with whatever it wants to do, lol!

DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!!!!!!
that's an ATTACK ROACH! it wants to eat your face Tiff. don't let it out. :p

btw, Laurie is testing out her new laying bin...let's hope she finishies by tonight. :D

Awww, Harry! They are such a cute couple! Hope Laurie gets it all done nice and quick for you! I hate it when they lay, I get so stressed about it, lol!

That's not nice saying things like 'attack roach'! Do you remember when I first got that lot of Dubia? I thought they were so awful! The shop was too busy, or I would've asked to swap them for smaller ones, so I just said nothing (apart form "Ugh they're huge"!) and took them home! The process of transferring them into the tub at home was a complete comedy show - my daughter video'd it, but since she wants Christmas presents this year, she is (very wisely) not going to upload it!:p

Females dont have wings!

On the left is the female with the cocoon just before the hatch, and on the right there is a fresh adult male with wings :)

LOL you will definetly start getting little baby roaches once a female is full grown, ive had my colony for about a month and a half and ive just got new babies in the bin :D But my little indigo is a super fatty and eats all 10 i put in her feeder cup every day XD there go those new babies haha. Hopefully a new batch of babies emerges soon :D

Cool, thanks for the pics! My male looks exactly like that! Looking at them, I might well have 2 or 3 females, but they may need to moult one more time as the 'veil' part on their heads isn't so big as in that pic.

what you don't remember is that I was the only person on the forum that told you not to get them....I even said that they "BITE".why do you think that some places here in NYC looks like a slum? we don't care about the crack dealers, we just burn down whole neighborhoods once the roaches take over.

now I also just got off the phone with Laurie. she says that if your daughter doesn't post that video on youtube she is flying out to you right after her vacation is over in Cali and steal all your pets.
you know they wont be happy in Montana Tiff, I would do as she says.

love from across the pond,
Harry
