Volbeat is a great modern Metal Band. Sully from Godsmack is a classic.

That melody sounds like "Stairway To Heaven" from Led Zeppelin the year the music group Led Zeppelin was formed. I think Led Zeppelin may have elaborated from the Spirit song.

Led Zeppelin was on the same bill as Spirit when they opened for Vanilla Fudge on their US tour of December 26, 1968 (their first ever US perfomance). Stairway to heaven was released 1971... Although Led Zeppelin inevitably won the copyright lawsuit in that Spirit had launched and was settled in favor of Led Zeppelin in 2020. 🤔 Led Zeppelin is also notorious for heavily "sampling" folk legend led belly... More on that later.

Rock classic stairway to heaven.

I actually think I have heard of this goings on. I have got some Hippie Friends from High School and recall this conversation. One thing to say whatever way the legal goes those bands made great music!

I think most music has been "borrowed" at this point. Be it some Beethoven melody:


Or an old folk song passed down for hundreds of years.


I think that's one of the reasons that copyright in music is a bit absurd... It's all been done before, but it really boils down to "who did it best" to set the precedent?

Sampling is an art in itself. I think sampling with DJ's would be less of an issue if they referenced (gave a shout out) to their sampling material. That is similar to writers listing references from quotes and sited material in literature. Neither gets ghosted....
