The original instrumental was recorded in 1965. It was an instrumental rendition of the the Rolling Stones song "The last time" recorded by The Andrew Oldham Orchestra.

The instrumentals from the from The Verve and The Andrew Oldham Orchestra renditions do not sound the same as the Rolling Stones rendition. The Rolling Stones and The Verve lyrics are similar.

I was actually referencing the similarities of the instrumentals from The Verve and The Andrew Oldham Orchestra songs.
