Funny story happened the last few days. I had chipped a tooth about 2 months ago eating some dry spaghetti noodles.... Didn't think a whole lot of it, and I had a dentist appt coming up in September so I was going to wait. About a week ago, it started bothering me at night while I was sleeping, I would wake up with a sore lower jaw. I moved my dentist appointment up to this past Tuesday to get it checked out. I went in for a cleaning and checkup on Tuesday morning. They said the chipped tooth was bad enough that I needed a crown, and we scheduled that for the following morning, yesterday (Wednesday). When they started looking at it more for a crown, they decided it needed a root canal. Good grief....
So they scheduled me at a specialist that did those a few hours later. With my dental insurance, I still had to pay $580 for the root canal. I wrote them a check when I got there, before the work had been done. Interestingly the specialists last name was the same as a tortoise breeder's last name that I know. When I was there, I asked him if he knew that family, in AZ. He didn't know them, but asked how I knew a tortoise breeder. I told him that tortoises was kinda what I did as a second job. He instantly got really interested and said his kids had a tortoise and they were wanting to get some more. He asked me what it would cost him to get one or two from me. My reply: "Tear up that check I just wrote and we'll start talking." He kinda just laughed it off and did my root canal.
So last night, I get a call around 6PM, and it's the doctor, saying he really does want to work something out on a tortoise or two. He isn't going to cash the check until he has figured out a deal with me. I gave him my website to research what he wants, and he's coming by tomorrow night with his kids to pick out some tortoises. I wish I was good enough to work out deals like this on all my expenses. It'd be nice to trade in baby tortoises for power bills!
