Went to the new LAIR at Los Angeles Zoo

Kind of disappointed:(

If you like lots of snakes, this place is for you. The token chameleon, k. multi, was cooking in there. It must have been 90 degrees. Some of the plants were already dying-it's only been open a few weeks.

They had some monitors, a day gecko, horn toads, tortoises, a few turtles, a couple of PDF, couple of newts. The torts had a nice sunny pen outside. And the cages were nicely decorated with the landscape they were from, but way too many snakes.

Sounds similar to a Reptile show, where 3/4 of the booths are snakes, but glad they finally finished it and at least have some reptiles besides the Komodo Dragons.

Most of the cages were dark and hard to photgraph without a flash but I'll add some pictures later.

I'm sure a lot of the snakes were venomous and rare, but I was hoping for at least a couple different chameleons.

I'm almost always disappointed by the reptile enclosures in zoos. I think it's mostly because my expectations are too high :D
Last time I went to one I was surprised to see the first Komodo Dragon I ever saw...........that was a right bonus.
Some nice pics, I've never seen a Gharial in real life - they are funny beasts, eh?

The baby sheep is totally cool. i love your choice of shot of the zebra, very ah creative, yes that is it, creative.:):)

I can see that it is a lot better than nothing but not very exciting. Your pictures are all nice.

They have a nice Snake Neck turtle, and Fly River Turtle, I hope they have a massive tank for the Fly River Turtle. Oh and the Snake Neck..

EDIT: Not snake neck, Side Neck.

Baby goat, Baby goat! I like baby goats.

Well, it's not really a goat, but its still adorable!

They had two, but I think it said it was a "False Gharial" It had a nice enclosure.

Thanks! They baby was running around, it was very cute. And the zebra, what can I say butt, I liked the lines.

The tank was quite large, with a large land area. There was a giant lung fish in there too and the zookeeper was feeding them earthworms

I had a similar post from this weekend. I went to the Houston zoo and was disappointed with their Cham display...

Three species of poison frogs together?? That's gonna get the frog keepers all kinds of upset!!! :D

I always wondered what the LA Zoo's reptile collection looked like so thanks for sharing the first-hand experience. That baby big horn sure does look like a trouble-maker so it must be a good thing that he's ridiculously cute.

Yeah, Me Too......

I went to the aquariums in Chicago summer before last and was surprised to see a Panther Cham. The enclosure was large enough,, but not Foliaged enough... probably for viewing:confused: The light too didnt seem bright enough. But here is the KICKER!.... There was a small pond in it.... That looked kinda nasty, with all kinds of moss and stuff. The sign said Sambava Panther... He was perched on a lower branch all dark green like an avocado. He diddnt look active and only opened his eyes after I tapped on the glass. He looked very large and healthy otherwise.

I went to the LA zoo after they opened the LAIR and I as disappointed too. Mostly snakes. They have alot of tree vipers. But it's not what I expected it to be.
