Weird Question

So I've been reading the forums and haven't been able to find this. My female panther is about 5 months now. She's getting big and showing nice red colors.

Basically, I wanted to know if a gravid female panther still produces unfertile eggs if she's never introduced to a male? I've heard of chams being egg bound and dying, and I'd hate to find out that females produce eggs that need to be layed even though they were never introduced to a male.

Thanks for the response all.

Yep. They can lay eggs that are infertile without a male. If you keep the temps low and feeding to a minimum you can (sometimes) stop egg laying (especially in panthers) or reduce clutch sizes so it's easier on the female. Keep the temps around 80 in the basking spot and feed 6 crickets or equivalent of 3 days a week. Start this around six months.

Wow, that's really great to know. I felt like an idiot posting this, lol! She's all of a sudden changed from dull colors to a real vibrant red, but she's still young. I just don't want to find out that at some point she could be eggbound and I didn't have a laying bin in her cage. Do you put a laying bin in their just around six months? How would I know if she had eggs? Thank you for all this info. I know I've been feeding her probably too many crickets a day now, but she' young and growing.

Vibrant red? What kind of chameleon do you have? Females get pink/peach-ish-but not vibrant red. Any pics?

She's Oorana Mena/Nosy Faly. I don't have any pics right now, but I can post some soon. Yeah, she's been really red for the past week. She's healthy and lively, so I'm sure it's just the color she's bound to be unless she is gravid. But I think she's a little too young to be gravid.

You should provide a place in her cage for her to dig so you don't miss the sometimes subtle signs of her need to lay eggs.

Hey thanks! That's what I'm going to do. I cleaned out her cage today and took out her plant that she likes to poop all over and noticed that she did some digging in the dirt. It wasn't very deep, but there was definitely some digging. How deep should the bucket be that I put in with her?

Hey thanks Laurie. :) I'm going to put it in her cage today just in case. I don't post too much, but I love your Pictures. ;)
