Weird Question

I'll be receiving my chameleon sometime next week. I'm super excited.

My question is that I would preferably like to keep her in our living room which isn't small, but isn't huge by any means. I was wondering what you all thought about the sounds and lights of a television being run from time to time. Is this something that will stress a chameleon? I could keep her in another room if this is the case, but she would be at least 15 feet away from the tv and it's sounds. Thanks for the input all.

I'm probably a rare keeper of a first time panther in my living room.
rased from 6 weeks old right across from my TV.
even his adult cage is located in the same spot.

my guy has never been shy, scared, and loves new people.
maybe it's all the TV he watches.

what I will say is to move slowly when you are near him/her.
try to start hand feeding right away.
try to get him used to you, but give him/her some space as well to do his own thing too.

enjoy your first, it will be the start of a whole new addiction if you are like me.

Chameleons don't see well in the dark, so providing something to block the light from the tv, if necessary depending on positioning, is all you'll need. As you'll soon see, their night vision is so poor that as soon as the lights go out, they usually stop and roost for the night. And unless you're putting out a tremendous amount of bass, the audio from general tv watching shouldn't be a problem, either. Enjoy....

Hey thanks Kent. That's a good idea. She's going to be quite a ways from the tv, but I think blocking the light would be a good idea for night time.

Chameleons really have no sense of hearing. They feel vibrations.. now.. if you play the TV loud or stomp around etc. then you might have issues.

Ha! That's just great. Thank you. I want to provide her with the best and most comfortable place possible. I know they have a tendancy to not take stress well, so I want to do everything right to keep that to a minimum. Everyone here is just so knowledgeable and helpful.

another thing you might be able to do is put the cage against the same wall as the tv that way he doesnt have to see it and if you are watcing tv late at night the light is not shining on him

I'm not kidding when I say all my chams seem to enjoy television. (David Attenborough's Life in The Undergrowth is their fav). When we turn tv on, they chill back, sit on a comfy branch and watch with us. Its very funny when company comes over to watch them watch tv. But no, it shouldnt bug them.

Hey guys! and OP! I just bought all my equipment for a 2nd go around at a chameleon...my first guy was a Veiled about 4 years ago and I loved him, but got rid of him when I moved and started traveling a lot. Well now things are different so I'm going to do it again (because I loved the first time) and will be ordering a panther today.

My first cham was raised in the living room...just give them lots of hiding space and whatnot and you should be fine.
