Watery Worries

I’m new to this forum, so I’m not sure I’m writing this in the right place. Anyways, I keep finding myself looking over at Archie (my chameleon) to see if he’s drinking from his dripper. I never see him drinking, so I’m always worried he’s not getting water. Am I worrying to much?

Don't worry about not seeing him drink. I rarely see my cham drink ever, but I know he's healthy because of his poop. When they poop it comes out in two different types. There's the actual brown poop, and then there's the white part. If the white part is yellow or has a little orange in it then that means your cham is dehydrated. It should be perfectly white. If your's IS yellow or orange, try moving the dripper. Try gutloading your insects with juicy fruits like peaches and oranges. I use an automatic misting system and that makes sure he has enough water as it covers the entire cage in water every few hours.

I seldom see my chams drink but never show signs of dehydration. Humidity helps spot with keeping a cham hydrated and live plants, particularly the fast growing plants like pothos, help a lot with that. I also occasionally mist at night... Like nature would have it. They won't drink but can gain moisture from humidity.

Like Jared said, he a loop watcher. But don't freak out of where the white and brown meet is yellow, that just a little blending. But the rest of the white should be able white. Sunkin eyes and behavior are the other signs but by then you are talking defeat hydration.

If you haven't read already, fountains are a no-no. They harbor bacteria. In my opinion they are ok for a few days (afterwards you clean it, bleach it, dry it, pack it) like if you go on vacation or your cham is dehydrated, but not for daily use.
